ip address changing

first of all, if this question has been asked, i sincerely apologize, but i was searching for a good 15-20 minutes and couldn't find the answer.

now, my ip address changes regularly. i've read that it's because of my ISP, and i need to pay more to get a fixed address.

my question is if i want to link my radio http://[my-ip]:[my-port]/index.html on, let's say, a blog, how can i give people a permanent address to my stream?
(i'm running a stream off this same machine that i'm using.)

ideally, i'd like to provide a link the index, but if it's ONLY possible to link to the .pls file, that's fine.

the point is to not have to update the link on my blog according to the new ip that changes once or twice a day. what options do i have?

i tried it but then the "http://[my-ip]:[my-port]/" didn't work entirely.

I don't really want to pay for anything until my station is actually getting a couple more listeners. Then I'll start growing and making a website for the station and getting advertising happening.

It's free for basic stuff, and you don't need anything fancy I don't think

there's many other dynamic dns services around, also free eg, no-ip.com

I used to use zoneedit.com - not the simplest interface, but it had some features the others didn't (can't recall, since my ISP has static IP's I've stopped using those services)

edit: I remember the "feature" ... zoneedit is useful if you have your own domain, which I do. Most others free service you use one of their subdomains

I went and signed up for the free dyndns service. works perfect! thanks a million!

the only thing that bugs is how you have to "update monthly to avoid expiration."
is there a free service you might know of that won't make you do that? i can't tell if no-ip or zoneedit will.
it's a minor thing, of course. i am already considering paying for a domain.

When you figure in royalties (licensing), bandwidth and time, you're already paying for your station (but then, what hobby doesn't cost a little money?)

If your ISP changes your IP address, then the only way to give listeners a link that doesn't break over time is to use a Dynamic DNS service. Maybe there are free ones out there, not sure.

erm ... what's your upstream bandwidth like? coz, when I'm the second listener (there's on listening before I listen) it buffers like a mad thing!!

hmm, i'm streaming at 128kbps in mp3.
i don't know where to check for more info.

info on my machine:
intel quadcore q6600 @ 2.40GHz
4GB of RAM, 3GB recognized (cuz i'm on XP)
500 GB Hard Drive (428GB used)
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Video Card

also, this might be separate, but there's this listener (ip) that's been listening constantly all day yesterday and today. i kicked it, but then it popped right back on immediately - not even like 10 seconds later. it was immediate. it's like it's stuck to my station. what could that be?

i'll post a separate thread about that concern.

Sounds like and looks like you are creating lots of headaches for yourself by trying to do something on the cheap, kind of like the dude who eventually had to spend thousands while trying to save two dollars. Also I don't know for sure but you may be asking for trouble, linking your stream to the public which leads directly to your Shoutcast DNAS server. I would quickly ask others what problems could be associated with a direct link to the DNAS and best workarounds for that. I think you're inviting folks to sit there and guess your username and password and then screw you up big time.
Also apparently you don't have enough bandwidth to serve more than a couple of connections at the same time, unless you plan to only have yourself and maybe another friend listening. If you are going to put any effort into this why not do it the right way from the beginning. You say you already own your own domain and you can look for some streaming media service that offers free service for a small number of connections and once you get ready to handle more than you can pay for what you think your listenership will increase to.

your machine specs are irrelevant ... your internet connection speeds (specifically upstream bandwidth) is the issue

Companies exist that sell you SHOUTcast hosting.
These people are experts at providing adequate bandwidth to meet your needs.

In English:
For a small price your listeners get a stable stream to listen to.

Paying sucks though:
I agree giving other people my money sucks,but for some reason
people don't want to give me their time/hard work or bandwidth for free.
This is because they like to feed their families,they are selfish #@;##&*
