Winamp, Andriod Style

Hey

First of all I really like Winamp so thanks for the great work you have done with it!

I have recently purchased an Andriod 2.2 phone (HTC Desire/Bravo) and straight away went looking to see if I could get my favourite computer music player for it, sadly as it turns out there's no such thing, only the possibility to remotely control the winamp on the computer.

If at all possible I would love if there were an andriod verison of the winamp music player.

A bit in the same court I would be very greatful if the synching process between andriod devices and winamp could be a bit more streamlined and easy to use. I tried for a few hours getting it to work though in the end I went with Media Monkey instead since the winamp synching process left confused and without the music I wanted to listen to.

Again thanks for all the great work you do making Winamp such a great music player!

the second wish is more likely to happen than the first wish as you're asking for a new app (none of the existing Winamp code could be used for an Android version) and so falls into the same category as porting to Linux/MacOS/everything non-Window OS based.

Unfortunately you'll have to find another media player you like best on Android (I like MixZing myself but there are lots of good choices.)

Short of that, I think the standard wishes for WinAmp to play nicer with Android are:
  1. Make AutoFill smarter about only filling a designated "Music" folder and ignoring everything else (since there may be app files and other data you don't want WinAmp to touch)
  2. Improve application of ReplayGain during portable sync (since I don't believe there's any way to get it on the Android itself so far.)

A good music player is one of the biggest things that Android is really lacking. Being one of the most respected music players since the dawn of MP3's, Winamp would be smart to contact Google and talk about making an Android version that can sync with your desktop/laptop Winamp. If it worked as well as the Windows version, people would be tripping over themselves to buy a good music player app from the Android Market. Check out the projected Android sales and market share reports. Dont miss that boat!

Must add i agree with drone46.

Android (and the windows 7 mobile) will need great music plaeyrs, and no one is better placed than Winamp for this.

Winamp for the PC is by far the best media player around.....

But doesn't change the fact, that the big Wishlist sticky says, that all threads, asking for a mobile or Linux version of Winamp will be closed and also doesn't change the fact, that this is the 5th thread or something like this in the last days asking for an Android Winamp version.
