Winamp 5.6 crashes immediately after install
I just upgraded from version 5.58 to 5.6, and now Winamp doesn't load. I tried to also uninstall and reinstall, still nothing. I can see winamp.exe load up in Task Manager, but after about 3 seconds it disappears from that list. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit.
Any ideas? |

Nevermind, fixed it. For some reason I had to uninstall my preferences as well, plus I deleted the Winamp folder entirely. That seemed to have resolved it.

Aha! It crashed again, this time while I was reinstalling all my plugins. Seems like the popular lyrics plugin found here:
http://www.winamp.com/plugin/lyrics-plugin/148097 can cause problems. I deleted the .dll file associated with this plugin from the Winamp folder, and Winamp loaded up again without issue. This could have been the initial cause after I installed version 5.6 for the first time. |

TheAnomaly101: it looks like a bug fix for an issue with Winamp's own handling of the embedded IE control is causing issues with the lyrics plug-in trying to create it's window and without an update to the plug-in there's not much can be done (it is now being moved to the list of plug-ins disabled when the installer is run to prevent it causing a crash).
kazuharo: please run the standalone version of the tool from http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....161361#plugins so we can see if there's something else interfering with your install. -daz |

@kazuharo
Go to: %ProgramFiles%\Winamp\Plugins Create a new "Backup" subfolder in there Move these three files (3rd-party plugins) from Plugins to Backup: gen_playa_control.dll gen_msn.dll dsp_enh.dll Does Winamp open ok now? If yes, then please let us know which of the three was to blame... Also confirm that you've got the latest versions of these plugins from the 5.6 Essentials Pack: gen_classicart.dll gen_find_on_disk.dll gen_nopro.dll gen_skinmanager.dll gen_timerestore.dll gen_undo.dll in_wv.dll ml_enqplay.dll |

Hi, I did all that, including install the essentials pack, but no sucess.
I move one by one of the dll in plugin folder and the one who is causing the crashes is gen_ml.dll. I have C-Pro installed too, could be this? |

Hmm, I just installed ClassicPro and a few skins
and everything works fine for me, so I doubt if it's that to blame (assuming you've got the latest C-Pro v1.15) Let's see if we can determine if it's one of the ml_*.dll plugins causing gen_ml to crash Move all the ml_*.dll files into the Backup folder Keep gen_ml in the Plugins folder. Does Winamp still crash? If no, then start moving the ml_*.dll files back from Backup to Plugins, one at a time. ie. Move one back, try to open Winamp... no crash? Close Winamp, repeat until it crashes. Let us know which ml plugin causes the crash. Maybe start with ml_pmp.dll & ml_devices.dll (if it's one of these to blame, then do you have any Portable devices connected?) If it crashes in gen_ml with no ml_*.dll plugins present, then we'll take things from there.... though I'm not sure how/what exactly yet.... |

Rah I founded!
Thank u very much for your help, and sorry for taking long for answer but I was at work, and school after. But here is my problem: I move all the ml*.dll, just like u said and no crashes at all. Then I plug my phone (a Android device) in USB mode for try to transfer some files, bam! It crashes again! How to I resolve this? I cannot use my phone and Winamp at the same time? Thanks again! |

Possible [additional]
I got it to work by removing in_snes.dll So it could be an input plugin ( In_*.DLL ). Hope this helps in some way.

From my testing, gen_lyrics.dll is to blame, causing crashes on startup

BastardKidKris: the author of that plug-in has released 2 updates (is now at v0.4) which fixes the crash issue.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say that I too had the issue with Winamp crashing just after install. What fixed my issue, is that I use the gaming music oriented Chipamp addon pack (www.chipamp.org), I updated that, and I was again able to start using Winamp with no issue.
I stumbled into this thread from Googling 'winamp 5.6 crashes', so I hope someone else finds this piece of information useful. |

My crash problem was caused by the WASAPI MAIKO plugin out_maiko.dll. I moved it out of the plugin directory no immediate crash anymore.

I was experiencing a crash immediately after install and was just about to give up trying, and i found a solution that is less specific than those posted above but WORKED for me and i recommend trying it.
Reinstall Winamp and ensure the checkbox for "Multimedia Engine" if fully checked, not just partially checked. I was being picky at first about what i wanted to install and what i didn't, however by keeping all the other settings the same and changing that option from partial checkbox to fully checked, i was able to open winamp without it crashing on me. |
