Multiple server streams

Hey guys,

I've noticed on some shoutcast streams there is often a list of maybe 4/5 or so links when the user connects to the stream. Each might have the station name followed by 20/100 or 50/100 etc. I was wondering is this used for when a stream reaches capacity it then will direct the listeners request to the next one?

I ask because on my host I have a maximum of 100 listeners but I've also gotten another server from them (different IP) for another 100 listeners. Its for the same station and I was wondering is there some way of tying these together? I had considered the relay option but I wasn't sure if that is for what I'm trying to achieve.

Any advice much appreciated,

Thanks,

Fintan

Thanks for the reply, so basically the purpose of the relay is when the station is listed it shows the extra capacity? So I'm wondering when providing links to the stream should you just put the first server's IP address ? and then if that is full will it automatically transfer the client to the second server which is relaying the stream?

Any advice much appreciated,

When a listener connects via the Winamp directory they will automatically be redirected if one of the relays are full. You can make your own playlist file and host it on your site and then use that link to give out. I assume that you know how to make a .pls file ? Let me know if not.
