No link. One of my friends told me that she got a spam e-mail from me from an old Hotmail account I hadn't checked in a while. When I opened my Inbox I found about 70 bounce replies to spam I never personally sent. I looked at the e-mail header she received and it said it originated from 125.160.254.56 (Indonesia.) I looked at some of the other bounce backed e-mails and another one had an originating IP from 200.126.133.25 (Argentina I think.) Probably forged. I changed my account password, all I can do is wait and see if that resolves it. Microsoft probably doesn't even know about the hacking yet. I'll wait and see.

Actually, this is the first time my hotmail account was hacked. I've had it for over 15 years with no problems until today. Never even changed the password once until today.

I'd say that sums it up right there

Not really. It was a 13 character non-dictionary password not susceptible to brute force or dictionary attack. I think the hacker managed to bypass the security, not crack my password.

I've had mine since 1826 or so and never had it hacked. What is wrong with me?

Meh, I wouldn't care if it were hacked, I only use it to log in to a few websites now.
I switched to Gmail in late 2004

They can also just spoof that the e-mail was sent from your account, you may not have been hacked.

Didn't Hotmail get replaced with Windows Live in 2009 or was that just a nightmare I had?

Hotmail = Windows Live. For a while (and possibly still?) the Web Service was called Windows Live Hotmail to seperate it from the Mail app in the Windows Live suite

That means it didn't originate from Hotmail. A sender can address email any way they want. I'd look at how your contact list got public.

I use gmail, but you'd never know. My pop server forwards all me@mydomain.com emails to me@gmail.com. The gmail account is set to send me@mydomain.com "from" and "reply-to" fields. It's like a stamped letter. I can put any return address on it.

I think it's more likely that your machine is a spybot or trojan than that hotmail got hacked. Run a scan on the computer, and whether it is or isn't contaminated, change every password on everything you use.

It's even possible that her computer contained your email address. No better way to get around a spam filter than to get mail from trusted addresses. It might be her own email that got compromised too.

Check your computer. Tell her to check hers. Everybody who gets spams from your address should do the same. These things are intentionally contagious.
