SHOUTcast iPhone app
I am no longer able to listen to my station via the SHOUTcast iPhone app.
I think it might be related to the latest version of the app which was released back in Decmeber, since I was previously able to listen. Initially it says Preparing..., then Connecting..., then after a little while it changes to Provisioning..., then back to Connecting..., and eventually Timeout Error. I have tried listening to several other stations without any problem. I am able to listen to my station through other radio apps such as TuneIn Radio so it's not an iPhone issue. The station is The Cutting Edge of Christmas. Any help or suggestions? Thanks. Michael |

in the tune-in.pls which is returned for that station, i see 3 DNAS servers listed, 2 which load fine, the 3rd one against IP 68.173.234.184 which doesn't resolve. i would have to assume that is the one which the iPhone app is trying to connect to as that times out when i try to load the summary page for it.

Thanks for the response.
I've done some more testing and figured out why the SHOUTcast iPhone app isn't connecting to the stream. My setup has a main server and 2 relay servers. The main sever has a max of 3 users and only accepts connections from trusted IPs. When someone listens through Shoutcast.com or the TuneIn Radio iPhone app they are automatically forwarded to one of the relay servers. However, the latest version of the SHOUTcast iPhone app is forcing them to connect to the main server only which then rejects the IP since it is not trusted and thus the timeout error. The app needs to be fixed so that it behaves in the same way the tunein-station.pls does through Shoutcast.com and automatically forwards the listener to one of the relay servers. |

though that doesn't explain the IP never resolving unless you're doing some other blocking on the access to the DNAS. -daz |

Thank you Rickdj. That means that when the primary mp3 servers are full with bandwith or customers then the new userS will be automatically relayed to narrowband servers with aac stream? What abouth quality? Is mp3 stream at 128kbps beter than the 48kbps aac stream? So the SHOUTcast App does not allow to manually enter and edit radio stream source IP and port? Thanks for answers.

with the question about aac+ streams, i can never remember (since it's not something i can try out) if the iPhone app supports them or if it's mp3 streams only - if they're not showing then that would most likely point at it only supporting mp3.
[edit] after the post was made and was replied to, i got confirmation that the iPhone app does support AAC+ playback and AAC+ streams should be appearing by default in the search results [/edit] with the comments about relays, if accessed via the Directory listings, they will only be of the same type and bitrate and will not mix-and-match mp3 and aac+ streams for the same station. the same applies for different bitrates of the same content type e.g. 128 and 64 - in all of those cases they will be separate listings. -daz |

Thank you DrO. Of corse, Apple iPhone 4(s) support aac and aac+ radio streams.
In iTunes store exist apps which can play aac and aac+ station additional to mp3 stations if station transmit with both aac(+) and mp3 stream. In shoutcast radio app I miss search possibility "Narrow Results By" like is on http://www.shoutcast.com web site. Developer need to improve the SHOUTcast Radio app. Where is the best place to inform app developer about this additional future? |

just because a device supports it doesn't mean the app does.
however, i've checked and have been told that it should be allowing you to play AAC+ streams so they should be appearing. and going back to your original post, the stream you linked to is a MP3 based one and not AAC+, so i'm wondering if this is a mixing oup of what you're trying to say. you can either post something on the feedback of the app or use the shoutcast.com feedback link (though it doesn't guarantee a response / acknowledgement on the matter). -daz |

Thank you again DrO for your answer and intervention by development team! I hope that they include search possibility "Narrow Results By" like is on http://www.shoutcast.com web site. With "Narrow Results By" in SHOUTcast Radio app for iOS we get the world best SHOUTcast Radio app for iOS on the planet Earth. With this option we can easy find AAC or AAC+ radio stations additional to MP3 stations.
If I return to your words underlined under two » « : »and going back to your original post, the stream you linked to is a MP3 based one and not AAC+, so i'm wondering if this is a mixing oup of what you're trying to say.« I make a mistake when I copy stream IP and port link http://91.121.89.153:9900 to this forum in this section. The link http://91.121.89.153:9900 is correct and transmit in MP3 (I mentioned in message in this section that station transmit in AAC+ stream), I shoul paste link http://91.121.164.186:9950 which is AAC+ link. I apologise abouth this. Is not going for mixing what I traying to say. Here bellow is an example for Radio Polskastacja EDEN. I double check and all IPs and ports are at this time correct. Shoutcast radio station »Polskastacja EDEN« transmits on 3 IPs with 2 types of streams, mp3 and aac+. 1. http://91.121.89.153:9900 - 128kbps MP3 stream - SHOUTcast Radio app for iOS 1.4.2 find only this MP3 radio stream. 2. http://91.121.164.186:9950 48 - kbps AAC+ stream - SHOUTcast Radio app for iOS 1.4.2 is unable to find this radio stream. I do not know how to find it in SHOUTcast Radio app for iOS 1.4.2? 3. http://91.121.236.248 - 48 kbps AAC+ stream - SHOUTcast Radio app for iOS 1.4.2 is unable to find this radio stream. I do not know how to find it in SHOUTcast Radio app for iOS 1.4.2? With "Narrow Results By" I can filter search results by “AAC+” or “Narrowband “ radio stations as is it on http://www.shoutcast.com web site. With this search option any AAC+ stream station should be found which is in SHOUTcast radio directory! Please forward this message to development team. A lot of people would be happy with this search option and I would be one of them. I also send a message via “send Feedback” link from www.shoutcast.com and from the feedback APP from iTunes. I hope development team accept my wish and add this search option in SHOUTcast radio app for iOS. DrO, thank you again for your cooperation and intervention by development team. |
