Well world, you've managed to screw me again. I started this IT course mid-year and the establishment is changing the course content for next year. Normally we'ed have kept on with the old course but it's been decided that we have to finish off the second half of the course with the new content. This of course means increasing the number of hours we study as well as extending the semester to get it all in. On top of that, we now do twice as much stuff in Java, and VB and less in C and none in COBOL (no complaints there). The people who are doing networking now have to do 200+ hours worth of programming and they are usually the ones who hate it the most. The whole thing's fucked.

I should have joined the army.

Hmm.. sounds like my CS course this semester.. All our labs are to be programmed in Java, all the examples in the lectures are Java, everything is Java, except the textbook: Foundations of Computer Science, C edition. WTF is that? Makes doing problems or studying in it hard for neophytes, but I guess they should get weeded anyway..

In my Microcmoputer Hardware module last week, have a guess what we did... installed an OS... you generally know how to do that after you finish building a computer. Anyway we only watched and took notes - real big learning experience that. Most of the time we end up correcting the teacher on the course cos it's so out of date.
And now the bookshop wants me to pay for a text book I ordered six weeks ago. WTF is with that? I needed it at the start of the module not at the fucking end! I am stuck doing shit that is only just over the level of what I was learning in high school. I would quit except for I need to do it to get into the diploma year. Why the fuck do we need to know what a VMS/VAX system is anyway? DOS has more functionality. The weekend is here, about fucking time. Thankfully I've only got three assignments to finish.

Phisherman's Guide to a good Life:

1) NEVER buy salami from the grocery store. It's soooo chewy.

2) NEVER Pet A Burning Dog

3) NEVER EVER EVER buy "teach yourself C++ in 24 hours" by Jesse Liberty, At your neighborhood WalMart

i'm in high school and i hate my computer class. i've been called up from my nap several times to explain the innards of a computer to the class. The instructor is stupid and steals his lesson plans from the other computer teacher. He wants us to know stupid shit like how to move one word over in an Word document(ArrowKey+Ctrl. Has anyone ever used that?

er... yeh! All the time, don't forget Shift + Ctrl + <arrow key>... See us serious typists don't use that mouse thing... it slows us down In fact the mouse is really pretty redundant in most windows programs I use. Now go back to school and learn all the shortcuts for EVERYTHING!

Mule.

Yesterday in a hardware class we were supposed to take apart a newish (ie non-486)computer but no-one would give the teacher the key. I mean I'm OK, I usually end up correcting the teacher on stuff not in the course outline, but a lot of people don't know anything about the inside of a computer.

ReD, VMS/VAX is... stupid. It is a command line OS that supports multiple users. Totally useless. Can make ASCII text files but can't save them to floppy.

ocelot312 + phisherman - you guys are right, I wouldn't trust a computer that wasn't put together by my own hands. Gateway really do have shit support and HPs just piss me off.

You're not going to believe this! The entire Business/computer section has run out of paper. How the fuck am I supposed to print an assignment with no paper? You would think they could just buy more, but supposedly there's no money.

This is the last I am going to say about this hopefully (semester ends next monday). Today I had two assignments due in. One was that AUD$15 000 computer the other was a batch files one I had to go through with the teacher. What happens? The 29 page report took forever to print at home which made me miss the early train I was going to catch. Then I caught the 12:45 in and I didn't get here until 2:10. It's about 30km. A fucking train broke down in front of mine. I missed my appointment but lucky the taecher's letting me do it later. I am so

I really, really should have joined the army. Or air force. Or navy. Or boy scouts.

[edit-may be last post for a while until I get a modem...]

Yeah...i am having a similar situation...i am a freshmam at Elon College taking Computational Programmig and we are writing in C++ and now they are switching everything in Java, which means i am going to have to totally tear up my scheduel so i can take a intro to Java class over winter term, and then in the spring semester take Algorithim Development! So basically everything i learned this semester means jack shit!
