Forcing new sc_w3c.log
Using Shoutcast 1.9.8
How do I force the creation of a new sc_w3c.log while archiving the previous? My log is over 600 MB now and growing at about 30MB per week. It's getting unwieldy to download and analyze, so I want to start a new one but don't know how. I'm using a 3rd party provider and have asked them, but they say " All stats on your shout cast server can be reset by loging in to your shout cast admin page with user admin and the password used for encoder. We don't have a way of clearing the w3clog. " I haven't tried this yet - is it the correct method? It doesn't sound like it would preserve the existing log. It takes almost 90 minutes to download the log, so if I download the current log then do the above, I'll miss 90 minutes of data. What is the recommended practice here? |

stop the DNAS, rename the file, restart the DNAS, get a new file whilst keeping the old one (is what the v2 DNAS does on log rotation without the need to stop itself).
or you could try to archive the w3c file whilst it's still running (may not work but has the few times i've tried) to get something that should be noticeably smaller to download compared to the raw file (as it sounds like you're doing). |
