Load Balancing
Been so long I don't recall how much of the old Shoutcast transferred into the SC 2 server so it's time for a question:
Does Shoutcast 2 load balance in any way - such as if a server becomes full it tosses listeners over to a connected relay? I came across this and it looks promising but if the feature already exists through the YP as it looks like it used to is it necessary? Anyone got other ideas on load balancing? http://nathanskelton.com/blog/?p=868 Megarock Radio - St. Louis Since 1998! Don't click this link! Corporate Radio Sucks! No suits, all rock! |

2.x does it just the same way as 1.x does when listed. so it will redirect listeners to another DNAS if there is one to send them to as part of the cluster (which assumes everything is grouped correctly with the same authhash).
the main difference I remember is that 2.x will provide all DNAS in the.cluster via the playlists the DNAS can directly provide based on the information its gotten from the YP which is handy if wanting to provide complete playlists on a website or other directory, etc. 1.x cannot do that. when not listed then its down to you to do it be it via that script or something else. but unless all client requests go through it then there's going to be cases where it won't work in a private setup. for the private situation (and if the YP is down) would probably be helpful to have a means to specify other DNAS to use in the same manner as the DNAS does when in a public and listed mode (unlike some of the weird crap some stations do with 1.x setups to achieve it even with a public setup that over inflates user numbers...). |

Ok, I was hoping that was the answer. I use pls/asx files on the website for most stream launches from other sources so I can change servers on the fly without going to a ton of websites changing IP's.
This is something I noticed today - it does not seem as if my SC1 server is grabbing title info from the SC2 server which at least for now I am using as the primary source the feed is sent to. Is there a way around this or will it be easier to stream to SC1 server then have SC2 relay from that? Megarock Radio - St. Louis Since 1998! Don't click this link! Corporate Radio Sucks! it's probably related to point #3 from http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=373139#known though i'd agree with the statement above (or the next update which should resolve a few more of the issues in the 2.2.2 update when it's released at some point in the next few weeks).
