Admin page (black) - Questions

Hello Everybody,

I am running my station Radio Pécs International since 2008, and I have a few questions I've never asked before. I apologize if the answers were already given (cannot find them here).

1. While on the admin page (black), I noticed that all of a sudden the number of listeners goes up when I play certain tracks. When they are finished, those IPs disappear. How can this be? Do they connect automatically when their favourites are played? Very strange.

2. The log files make a pretty long list. Of course, I only view the tail, but how can I delete those old logs which go back many years?

3. I banned quite a few IPs. But why do they still come back, trying to connect, disconnecting, trying again and again? Others are obviously computers because I cannot get in contact with them, a thing I always try to do, greeting them on the stream via mic.
It's obvious because I cannot imagine a listener tuning in from the U.S. east coast at
4 a.m. (EST). Here are just two examples: 78.47.12.238 and 54.197.169.209

Thank you very much indeed for any enlighting reply. Kind regards from Hungary,
Hans

1) That's something which has been happening for a few years with some sort of bot network that is looking for specific songs and so connects for just that and then disconnects.

2) You'd have to ask your host about that. As you're on the legacy 1.x DNAS, you miss out on the 2.x DNAS auto-rotating the log files (typically daily) which keeps things down to a reasonable size and only preserves up to what is wanted.

3) It probably relates to things from point #1 and if something persists that is not wanted, it's better to block it before it even gets to the DNAS such as via iptables / firewalls.

Thank you for your reply.
I think I will have to change to the 2.x DNAS. Only hope it will not be too difficult because I am a technical dummy. If there are problems coming up, I still have YOU, ha ha.
Regards,
Hans

the main thing is use the existing config file, ensure you've got password and adminpassword config options specified and then generate the authhash to be listed via the server admin page i.e. follow the docs provided with the DNAS and you generally shouldn't have any obvious issues when moving from 1.x to 2.x.
