Router Issue?
Hi all,
We have a 3 stream set up 96 AAC, 128 MP3 & 320 MP3. We have a fibre connection at the DJ end with a 40/10mb link through a BT router. The server is dedicated with a 1gbps switch and plenty of bandwidth. So, run the 96 & 128 stream no issues at all, will run fine for days, turn the 320k stream on and it will run maybe a few days before all the streams start to buffer, reboot drop the 320 and its ok again. I know we have enough bandwidth & resources to have all these running so could it be router issues?? Would an upgrade to a more robust router sort this? Cheers in advance Gary |

I assume the DNAS is running elsewhere, not behind the same router - otherwise you can handle at most 30 listeners on your 320kbit stream before the 10mbit upstream is fully used
what do you reboot when things start buffering? the source or server? the fact that it takes DAYS to start buffering would make it a bitch to troubleshoot - next time it starts buffering, check the memory usage of the source program and DNAS, something that takes that long feels like a small memory leak somewhere "If you don't like DNAS, write your own damn system" So I did |

DNAS version ? OS used ? otherwise what jaromanda says is about as much as can be done (and checking the DNAS / system logs for any errors when things start going wrong).

Hi, Thanks for the replies
Yeah the DNAS is on a dedicated server, i3 8gb ram, a 1gbps plan, 10tb data, the source is then connecting via edcast. It's a weird situation as the 2 streams at 96 and 128 will run for weeks with no issues, as soon as the 320 starts its usually not long before it starts to buffer all streams. Could it be router overloading? Its only a standard ISP supplied device. Everything else is ok, BT have checked all lines to exchange, speed tests are good. the 8-9 meg upload is enough to handle the upload. N The PC running edcast is an i5 with 8gb ram running XP (due to needs of processing software), I have checked PCs stats , max around 50% on cpu/ram and temps are low, baffled. The router is the only thing I can think of, as it's 24/7 data I reckon its crashing it. I reboot the router/fibre box when this happens, nothing else, once rebooted streams are fine again, minus the 320 as I turn it off. |
