Server clustering
So I know with the new SC2 the clustering seems to work as far as if you click 'listen' on any stream server it will spit out a playlist of all the streams in that cluster.
What I have not really tested is this - what happens when a server is full? Does that server automatically bounce listeners if they did not download the playlist file? Is the server system smart enough to knot it's full but others in the cluster are not? I know across the board I don't see many listeners on any of the relay servers which makes me wonder what happens when that main one fills and what others may do to solve this problem other than possibly linking as many people as possible to the server generated playlist files as opposed to a direct stream link.

in the v1 logic, a full server "knows" about the other servers in the cluster, and redirected the listen request to the next server. it did not know if that server was full or not, so it would be up to that next server to redirect again.
if there are only two servers, and both are full, the redirects will continue until a slot in the cluster opens up. not sure how the v2 logic changes this. with a playlist file containing all of the servers, the player would have to be set to auto-advance to the next entry in the playlist, and loop the whole list to get the same effect for non-clustered stations. when the dnas is not cluster-aware, it will refuse and drop listen attempts when it is full. the cluster does not load-balance - server 2 will only get listeners from server 1 when server 1 is full. /* v2 HTML5 / Player test pages DigitalMixNYC, DigitalMixNYCbx | DNAS Status: Now Playing js codes (scaststatus_X.php) | PortForward.com | Upload/Download Speed Test | No-IP.com: Free Dynamic DNS | In the YP | dnasDir */ |
