A few questions about shoutcast
I run the technical aspects of a professinal DJ demo production and duplication studio. To help promote our services as well as the music we run a 24/7 Shoutcast radio station. Through the day we have live dj shows, and on the off time play previously recorded shows. So here are my questions.
1) Are there any stand alone Shoutcast server programs? It doesn't seem right to me to have a studio with thousands of dollars worth of gear all running through a winamp plugin? 2) Almost everytime I want to switch the title displayed for the stream (ie when a new DJ comes on) I have to reset winamp to get it to update. Are we doing something wrong? Or is this just a bug? 3)If I switch the inputs from winamp to line in. It will stay on encoder 1 128k 44hz but if I click on encoder 1 after changing the source it will switch to 24k 22hz mono. Is this a bug too? Eric Anastas Syndicate Recordings |

1) Check SHOUTcast Tool Box. There are a few *nix based ones (not sure how well they work though) but for Windows you have a choice of a couple different programs (Winamp, OTSJuke, etc.) but they all seem to rely on a Winamp plugin to do the dirty work.
2) This is a bug with the current DSP. Use 1.8.0 or update the current track via the following URL: http://IP:PORT/admin.cgi?pass=PASSWORD&mode=updinfo&song=SONG_TITLE Where: IP is the IP of the server, PORT is the port the server is on (default is 8000), PASSWORD is the password you use to broadcast and SONG_TITLE is what you want to change the song title to (should be encoded so spaces are %20) 3) Also a bug. Use encoder 2, 3, or 4 for a fix or use 1.8.0 of the DSP. 1.8.0 of the SHOUTcast DSP 1.8.0 will require an mp3 codec installed on your system (NOTE: 1.8.0 can only encode one stream so if you use multiple encoders in 1.8.2a or b then 1.8.0 will not work for you). if you wanna update the titles while remaining on "line in", just rename a mp3 file to what you want to appear in the shoutcast listing. then play that mp3 for a few seconds and then hit stop. the title will then be sent over. If you are on "line in" the whole time, the listeners wont hear the mp3 and it will only send the title.
Remember to hit stop right after you press play on it. It will just keep sending that mp3 name. you can also edit the id3 tag on the fly inside winamp and replay it again for a few seconds to change the title real quick. hope this helps, DJ Amps BB 192k Mp3 HIGH DEFINITION | BB 24k Mp3 | BB 20k WMA | BB Community __________________________ My Host - Fast-Serv.com | Free Shoutcast Hosting - Coming Soon... |
