Is it possible to....

Hey, everyone i was listening to some songs today, and i was thinking how itd be cool, to be able to drop out all of the music behind the vocals on a track. i searched the plugins already, but only found one where you can take out the vocals, but not the opposite of it... and it dosnt work that well, it more or less is just a treble control. so i was wondering if maybe someone knew of something like im talking about, or if, maybe some one was up to making one. Now i dont know if there would be any use for except that it would be really cool. or maybe to figure out some lyrics, but alot of the plugins purpose's are to just make the tracks sound cool. so tell me what ya think, later. - slight

no you can't do this very well at all....

its impossible...
mp3, ogg, wav are single streams of data - all the instroments are together with the vocals in the stream.

its extreemly diffucult to separate them

scarily enough, i have a loose connection in my speakers that entirely takes out vocals (waaay better than any of those kareoke things) and nothing else...

as for your specific request, i don't think there is a plugin for that - the ones that remove voice are kareoke things, but i dunno if anybody ever thought of making a "kareoke, but for music!" plugin

Don't forget about your friend Google

I believe there are hardware pieces that do this for guitarists, drummers, spooners, accordianists, llama whippers, etc.

A Google search on 'guitar remove vocals' gives about 14,800 results.

Bah! Not my best search.

Anyway, the 4th result (GETTING RID OF VOCALS (Guitar News Weekly #197, June 10, 2002 - ( ...) looks promising.

Bah! The site was slow to load so I clicked the 'Cached' link provided by our friend Google

Woo Woo !!! Pay dirt!

Scroll down some and look for the link titled...
AnalogX Vocal Remover (Winamp) v1.03 for Windows 95/98/NT

Click it. (Took awhile to load...)

Quote:
AnalogX Vocal Remover works on the same principles that the hardware removers do - that in most instances vocals are equally mixed in both channels, and can identified removed by simply changing the phase on one channel by 180 degrees. While this won't remove vocals in all instances, it does work in many cases, and can sometimes be used to remove bass or breakbeat sections as well, which I find to be GREAT for sampling! Depending on the effects used on the vocals, sometimes the reverb or ambience of the vocals is left.
I'll leave further searching as an exercise for the reader.
