ID3v2 Tag doesn't get removed

Hi,

When removing the ID3v2 tag in Winamp and the ID3v1 is the only information for the mp3 file WinAmp sometimes still displays the ID3v2 tag. Why?`

Why can't WinAmp remove the ID3v2 tag?

Belive this to be a bug. It should erase the information. If anything the info shold be blank it the info is erased.

Br,
Mike

(still hoping that Nullsoft will make its excellent player available to Linux as well some day)

What method are you using?
(File Info/Alt+3, or Media Library -> Edit Item information)

Display where? Main/Playlist window, or in Media Library?

Sounds to me like either the files are read-only, or they've got Lyrics3 tags.

Re: Linux
Winamp3 is going crossplatform, not the 2x series.
Winamp 5 will be built on the 2x engine.

The method is File Info/Alt+3.
I uncheck the ID3v2 checkbox, update and it gets "removed" at least from the File info box.

It gets displayed in Main/Playlist window.

The files are not read-only when looking in properties with the file explorer.
And I know there are no Lyrics3 tags.

This is the mpeg info:
MPEG 1.0 layer 3
192kbit, 9146 frames
44100Hz Stereo
CRCs: No
Copyrighted: No
Original: No
Emphasis: None

Great news about the xplatform thing.
About WinAmp5, guess you mean 4 or what happened to no4?
WinAmp3 is going to be xplatform. So will also future WinAmp versions?

No, Winamp3 already exists and is a separate product/player.
Winamp (2.9x) will eventually evolve into Winamp 5, featuring some Winamp3 features (freeform skins mainly). The main idea being 2+3=5.
Winamp3 is built on the wasabi engine which is easier to port over different platforms, unlike 2.x's win32 engine.

Re: ID3v2 tags.
How do you know for sure that there's no Lyrics3 tags?
Lyrics3 tags take precedence over id3v1 tags, but id3v2 tags take precedence over all.
I can't think of any other reason how the old id3v2 tags can still be displayed after they've been removed. If the File Info box shows no id3v2 tag present, then surely it can only be Lyrics3 tags which are responsible?

There's some Lyrics3 editors referenced in this thread:

Anyone else got any other ideas?

whereislinuxamp...

Do you have a 3rd party MP3 plug-in. My suspicion is a 3rd party MP3 input plug-in may be interfering with the playlist or ID3 tag update.
Ctrl+P (for preferences) > Plug-ins > Input > look for a second MP3 or MEPG plug-in
-or-
Ctrl+P (for preferences) > File types > do you see mp3 listed twice in the Associated extensions list

If you do find a 3rd party MP3 plug disable it by renaming it. (eg in_ThirdPartyMP3.dll to in_ThirdPartyMP3.dll.off)
Or, just delete the problematic plug-in. Winamp's default MP3/MPEG plug-in file name is in_mp3.dll, so be sure to keep that one.

Another thought, make sure the playlist file is not set to read only.
