wma < > crashes XP

Winamp 2.91 (downloaded latest version 07.12.2003): while playing a wma file, if I drag the position bar to the middle of a song, XP locks down. This is only on wma files, and can be reproduced every time on this machine. I have the same problem on Windows ME and 98 machines on my network, but it only happens on rare occasions. Time to downgrade ?

Nope. Time to trash your WMA files and go with a better format.
Why NOT to use WMA/Mp3pro

Can't reproduce on WinXP.
(I've only got 3 wma files on my hdd, and that's more than enough, lol).

Try removing in_wm.dll from the Winamp\Plugins dir
and add WMA to the extension list in:
Prefs -> Plugins -> Input -> DirectShow Decoder -> config

If relevant, remove any other 3rd-party plugins
and make sure DirectSound is the active Output plugin.

It worked, but ....

now I have another situation...

( NOT WINAMP DIRECTED... Please forgive... )

I have some mp3 files that I made of my origional music ( LISTEN ) that refuse to share across my network from the XP machine.

They were encoded from wav files in various editors (Acid Pro 4, CoolEdit Pro, Cubase SX) so I don't think it's encodeing based.. Does XP have some sort of rule against file share with MP3's on a LAN ?
If I encode on any of the other machines (98 / ME / 2000), with the same software, I don't have these problems. if it's XP, what service is causing this, and can it be shut down ?

If this needs to be in another thread, please direct.

Thanks again !
Tom

Make sure that the MP3 folder is shared and users can change the shared files. There should be no reason why XP disallows it (WMAs yes because of DRM)

They are in shared folders, and there are no problems with shareing wma files.. which seems backwards to me.. Only mp3's give problems from the XP box.. I even went as far as to move other file types into this folder to check share rights on the other systems.. eveything but the mp3's share properly.. Windows tells me that the files may be in use, or I don't have authority to view these files.. I can't access these files by any means from the network, but they all show up in windows explorer. I have full admin rights on all boxes. Can a file type itself be given share rights permission in XP ?
