Setup
I have read some threads suggesting to go to the following ...
Options > Preferences > Setup ... however, in the Preferences window that appears there is no "Setup" to clik on. What am I doing wrong? Thnx, -Marc. |

Those threads were referring to winamp 2, not winamp3.

Ctrl+P (for preferences) > Audio > CD Playback > make sure 'Enable audio CD recognition' is checkmarked
You may have to restart Winamp for changes to take effect. If you need to change Internet settings... Ctrl+P (for preferences) > Internet |

Thnx - Yeah, all that stuff is already in place by the initial installation. I think I know this because when I put the cd in I see the little window titled Retreiving Cd Information appear with the word "initializing" in the box. After about 15 seconds a "not found" message appears and the Winamp3 browser window displays ...

Please try the following: If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. Are you using Winamp from work or do you have firewall on your home computer?

I don't think it is a problem with Winamp. It looks like to me the your company's firewall is not allowing media streaming or CDDB lookups. My workplace limits media streaming and I get similar error messages. Otherwise, it might be a corporate proxy issue. Talk to your company's network administrator. Just don't let the boss find out.

WMP uses the AMG (All Music Guide) database for CD lookups. It is a different service than a CDDB database. Maybe the firewall does not recognize the AMG service. The reason why I think it is a firewall issue is because of the access error messages you get when you use a internet radio station. I could be wrong, but that is my best estimation.

I placed an address and port number in WindozMedia & RealPlayer and I have radio once again. I tried to do the same in Winamp3 but it is not being "saved". Like, after I put the numbers in and I navigate to another option, then return to Internet, the field where I put in the numbers is blank!

pressing "enter" did save the setting. However, still no radio or gracenote connection. You're probably right about the firewall thing. Oh well, at least WMP & Real are working. Thnx for your time and help.

You're Welcome. Try restarting Winamp, that might do the trick. Next time you play a CD in Winamp try the right-click play method...
Right click on "empty" space in the main window > Play > Audio CD x: where "x" is the drive letter of the CDROM/Player Whatever the case is I hope you can get back radio and Gracenote.

I have to admit that I have run out of ideas. One question if you don't mind. Is any CD information displayed in the playlist using the right-click method or do just get the 'Track 01', 'Track 02' etc.
If any one else would like to step in and help... Please do so. Thanks |
