Frustration at its worst. Please help if you can.
Ok. I'll give you the scoop so that maybe one of you can help.
I have been streaming with shoutcast for probably about 4 months now. I was running Windows ME when I started, and everything was fine. I was using the linerec plugin to talk on the mic between songs and all was well. These were happy days, when kittens played in flower beds and nobody got frustrated at winamp/shoutcast. Then I upgraded to Windows 2000 Pro. I was still able to stream with no problems, except for one. linerec no longer worked. So I uninstalled and tried flying with the linein:// built into shoutcast, but to no avail. Actually I tried about half a dozen other linein plugins and none of them worked. Every error message I got just frustrated me one after another. I read all sorts of things on the forums here and none of it seems to work for me. I am not a guru when it comes to shoutcast, so please bear with me. I am running the latest versions of Winamp 2 and shoutcast. I just want to figure out how I can get it set up so that I can talk on my broadcast. It's driving me nuts that I cannot. I know that I sound like a clueless newbie, but I have read what I can understand from the FAQs/forum posts and I am just still brain boggled. Thank you for listening to my rant. |

The latest version doesn't need/use the linerec plugins. Simply go to the input tab and select soundcard input. You then need to go to your recording mixer and adjust the settings so you are broadcasting the proper source (i.e. line in and not mic). I believe win2k defaults to microphone recording.

Line In Trouble
I'm having trouble with line in. It seems whenever I connect from my other computer, its brodcasting from my mic through my speakers. I have mic muted in my volume controls. I also have Line In selected for recording. However, when Line in volume is at full, the DSP shows my input levels are -inf dB. What's bizarre is, when I put the volume all the way down to zero, then the input level says -56 dB. Regardless, its still broadcasting through my mic. If you could help with these problems, I would appreciate it.
