Visualisations
What is the big deal with these things? I mean, I can understand occasionally looking at these things for a second and saying "wow, cool!", but some people seem to be totally obsessed with these things!!! There are about thirty billion visual plug-ins, so many, in fact, that when I go to see the top rated plug-ins to find out what the absolute best ones are (you know the ones that have to do with music and add functionality to Winamp) the list is made up of about 99.9% visuals. While that is kind of annoying, its not that big of a deal, as I think I have a pretty good plug-in setup now (though I wouldnt mind a queue function). I was just wondering what everyones fascination is with visualisations.

I am not a huge fan of visualizations, but I do have a moderate collection. There is no big awe factor for me. Every so often I like to watch a vis, if I want to do more that just listen to the music. There are entertaining and visually pleasing. Probably no rhyme or reason as to why people love vis. and others don't, it is just a matter of preference.

Milkdrop, IMHO is the best out there, followed behind AVS. AVS would be good if it was faster (used hardware acceleration) and not just CPU. Thats why I like milkdrop better

Well, ever since a few years ago, I downloaded Geiss and was immediately fascinated with visualization plug-ins. Downloaded a few other vis plug-ins which were pretty good, but EVERY AVS plug-in preset I've downloaded sucks the big one. Bigtime. I just hate AVS, it sucks in full screen, no matter what resolution, since it doesn't have 3D hardware support. Either it looks like shit in an (extremely) low resolution, or it looks good at a higher resolution but runs at 2.5 frames per second on a 1.7+ GHz pentium 4. And that's all Winamp.com seems to be getting anymore (AVS presets), so I haven't even visited the plug-ins section for a hell of a long time. Just give the plug-in 3D hardware support, and I might just think different of it. Lately, though, I haven't been as interested in vis plug-ins though. Not near as interested.

I'll admit, at first I thought the same thing, I used to make skins for a while, they really sucked since I didn't have the good programs for skin designing. But then I was bored one day and I was looking throught the plug in list, and I found AVS. I thought it was something you needed to download, but it was right there. So I messed around with it, and I got hooked on it, and now it's one of my biggest hobbies. AVS contains a bunch of 3D stuff. It has 3D superscopes, 3D movements, etc. Unless you mean something else (which you probably do)

Don't badmouth AVS, it's not good for you.

In responce to UltraZelda, i cant think of how you can hate avs. its probably because of your low frame-rates, and thats no reason. how many other mp3 players even give you the oppurtunity to create you own look of the music. for example, lets take the respectable musicmatch, well, what can you do with it? diddly squat if you ask me. I think avs was, and is, to take the winamp community by storm. and what has it done? I think if you think that every preset sucks, create one of your own thats better! I'd like to see you try.
