CDDB issues

I'm having some pretty frustrating CDDB issues. I've just reinstalled a standard version of 2.91 for the third time. Before playing anything, I verify the CDDB settings in Options | Preferences | Plugins | Input, by configuring the Nullsoft CD/Linein Plugin and making sure that "Use CDDB" is checked. Following that, I attempt to play a CD and query CDDB, and am immediately told that CDDB is not installed. I can then no longer check or uncheck the "Use CDDB" item in the plugin config. I've tried this with the Standard and Full versions. What gives?

Make sure you have downloaded the Standard or Full versions of Winamp. Lite does not have CDDB support.

I'm having this exact same problem. I have 2.91 full version (at least that's the link I clicked on to get it) Is there a way to verify if it's the full version or not?

Also, I have to put in a CD that I haven't played before to get the "CDDB not installed" message. So it knows that it's played it before. But, it says ... unknown artist - track 1

To verify, the full version will have '_full' at the end of the filename. '_std' would be the standard version and '_lite' would be the lite version.

ex.: winamp291_full.exe

Also, 'CDDB for recognizing CDs' will be listed under Audio File Support in the installer if you have the Standard or Full version.

If you mean the installation file. When I installed it, I didn't download the installer. I opened it from its current location.

Also, should I have uninstalled 2.8 before I installed 2.91?

No, there's no need to uninstall first . . . not under normal circumstances anyway.

Please confirm you've only got one Audio CD plugin installed,
ie. no 3rd-party plugins, eg. in_CDReader.dll
and please confirm that the following files exist in the Winamp\Plugins dir:

in_cdda.dll
in_cdda.cdb
CDDBControlWinamp.dll
CDDBUIWinamp.dll

Please also confirm that you've selected the correct "connection type" in:
Winamp -> Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Setup

And if you're using any firewall software, make sure it is configured to allow full internet access to winamp.exe

Ok, try this then: go to the folder you installed Winamp to(most likely C:\Program Files\Winamp) and then to the \Plugins\ folder. Check if you have the files 'CDDBControlWinamp.dll' and 'CDDBUIWinamp.dll'.

No, you didn't need to uninstall 2.8 before you installed 2.91. It works fine if you install a Winamp2 build over another Winamp2 build.

[edit] Yarr! Eggy got to it first. [/edit]
