New to this

Well ive been using realone player for a while and finally said "screw it!" to that.And downloaded winamp3.My question is what is all this ive read about how winamp 3 isnt really a member of the family? Should i ditch 3 and get 2?

Winamp3 and Winamp 2 are separate media players they can both "live" on the same computer. Weather you want to ditch WA3 is up to you. I and others have WA3 and WA2 on the same computer. Both WA3 and WA2 will continue to be developed.
