Font for Major Tom
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post. If not, could someone please direct where I might best ask this question.
I've been using the excellent Major Tom skin with Winamp 2.81 for quite some time now. Recently I was playing around with fonts in Mozilla. The next time I started Winamp, the playlist was unreadable. All I can see are weird looking characters that look like squared off capital "U"s: ![]() Unfortunately I can't remember exactly what I did when I was messing with the fonts in Mozilla. I don't know if I deleted a font or changed the way one displays or which one I might have messed with. I can't figure out how to get the playlist to display properly with the Major Tom skin. Can any of you tell me what font Major Tom skin requires? Or offer other suggestions on how I might diagnose and fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Arial Italic.
[Edit] Hold on. You have the old version. The only version availible for download on Winamp.com is the remix. It may be different. [/Edit] |

It looks like you must have screwed up something with the Arial Italic font. If you can figure out how to repair your Arial Italic font, then do that. Otherwise:
-Rename the major tom skin from WSZ to ZIP and unzip it. -find the file called PLEDIT.TXT and edit it (ie. open it) -find the bit which says "Font: Arial Italic" and change it to a font that works (eg. "Font: Arial" or "Font: Times New Roman") -make sure the newly edited PLEDIT.TXT is back inside the skin. -rename the skin back to WSZ and reload it. Don't distribute this skin to anyone, as you've edited it. It's only a small thing, but it's good etiqette (and copyright law) not to distribute any skins that you've modified. If you send a friend the skin, just send them the link Hope this helps

Thanks for the responses folks. I can see Arial Italic when I go into Control Panel and select Fonts. I even deleted it and reinstalled it from a backup directory where I happened to have old copies of the standard Windows fonts. Still the weird symbols. Very strange.
Will next try editing the skin as per your suggestions. |

Look in the MSKnowledge Base. Someone else must've screwed a system font before...

I don't have anything to do with screwing fonts. Really. Well, I do, but it's voluntary. On their part.
