Another Port Question
I have all ports 8000-8005 open and pointed at my computer. I've done multiple port scans with different programs to see if they are open. Ports 8000, 8001, and 8002 are all being used by other programs. They all say that 8003, 8004, and 8005 and clean, nothing being done. When I go to use those ports, the DNAS server windwo comes up with FATAL ERR! Port being used, blah blah blah. I can't see how they are being used though? I've checked, nothing there. I have them open and everything. Why is it doing this?

Ok, the fatal error does not show up in the server monitor anymore. Now what happens is it just says listening for connection on port xxxx. And in the Shoutcast window it just says connection for ever, never does anything else.
Event log: <08/21/03@19:52:01> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/win32 v1.9.2 (Nov 25 2002) starting up... <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] loaded config from C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\sc_serv.ini <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] initializing (usermax:10 portbase:8003)... <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban) <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip) <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] opening source socket <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] source thread starting <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] opening client socket <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] Client Stream thread [0] starting <08/21/03@19:52:01> [source] listening for connection on port 8004 <08/21/03@19:52:01> [main] client main thread starting This happens with portbase set at 8003 and at portbase 8000. (8001 and 8002 are being used, still show fatal error). |

That's a good DNAS startup log.
Now, connect a source. |

That means connect through Shoutcast right? If it is, I already did that.

Connect your Winamp/DSP combo source to the DNAS, yes.
If that isn't connecting: Did you change the DNAS variables srcIP and destIP from ANY? Is your DNAS and Winamp/DSP combo on the same machine? What exactly are you entering for "Address" and "Port" in the DSP? Please answer them all to expidite your help request. |

If the DNAS and Winamp/DSP combo are on the same machine, then use "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" (without the quotes) as the Address in the DSP.
If the DNAS and Winamp/DSP combo are on different machines but on the same lan, then use the lan ip of the DNAS as the Address in the DSP. Else, use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS as the Address in the DSP. |

Two (or less) easy steps: 1. If you have a firewall, open the necessary port(s). 2. If you have a router, configure it to forward the necessary port(s) to the DNAS machine. Check out the Sticky post titled: SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME! Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled: DNAS Stuff -> Errors -> Fixing [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx) from the Internet, disable NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out) Are the necessary ports open in your firewall and are they being forwarded to the DNAS machine? Check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/cantheygetin and see if the reported information there helps. |

regarding port 8000
have searched the forums but not found anything specific. if anyone can refer me to a thread or lend some advice i would greatly appreciate it. i have no problem connecting and being listed to shoutcast. i had some NAT issues that i resolved by forwarding the port i am currently using (8085-86) i can stream no prob. others seem to be able to connect ok too. i realise that using 8000 is my best option, however some other application or divice is using this. i want to figure out what is using this port but the radio tool box doesnt seem to work for my computer. im running mac os x. is there another way to check?....alternatively is it ok for me to continue using port 8085? does this cause any problems known ? |

If the ports in use work (8085 and 8086), please continue to use them.
