I've seen Xerxes post classical (however, not in the favourites of the month thread). I didn't know Tchaikovsky's middle name was Ilyich - you learn something every day! Did you know there's no star birth in eliptical galaxies - there's no loose matter floating around (no nebulas). This is because the actual space in elipticals can be white hot, smashing dust particals before they get a chance to gather. The stars are mostley between 10-14 billion years old.

Last week I manned our Queen Street office, it's just one desk and a PC (no one to talk to). The PC was down, so I ended up reading a book on the universe (left by the book club). FOR 4 FUCKING HOURS!!!!!!

There's nothing I don't know about galaxies.

I have Frogstomp but I haven't had time to air it yet (embarrassment of riches and all that). Maybe one day I'll click on it (probably by accident - 'Silverchair' is next to 'Silverfish'.

Silverchair i think is one of the greatest bands, for some reason they remind me of Nirvana.

Yeah, I'd put them in the grunge camp as well. Aren't they from down under Taylor? I'm into grunge circa 91-92, but albums after that seem to have passed me by.

Blank & Jones - Future Trance, Vol 2. Not party music, more like 'getting ready to party'. Funny how you can discover a trance act via The Cure.

I didn't find their remdition of Forest A+, more like C+. But it's hard to remix any track that's total class in the first place (I'm sure you agree).

Have you heard their remix of Pet Shop Boys/Home and Dry? More like A+.

well, i found it hard to believe that anyone could remix any Cure song with a trance flavor, so, with what they had i was impressed.

Well, most remixes suck when it comes to Cure songs, according to me, it's quite hard to remix rock songs but it definitely shows with the Cure. Hell, look at what William Orbit (whom I like, though) did to Inbetween Days on the Mixed Up album. So yes, the Blank and Jones version seems even better than it is because of that

I almost bought a Mogwai CD in ’98, but I was put off by their name and appearance (ugly bastards). Never made it as far as the music. WHat does Mogwai mean anyway?

"Mogwai" I think is an entirely made-up name. It was used in the "Gremlins" movie : it's the name of that plush-like animal that turns into a gremlin if fed after midnight...

If you are to get Mogwai stuff, I strongly recommend the latest two albums "Rock Action" and "Happy Songs For Happy People" : wonderful instrumental (sometimes sung) rock with strings and guitars.
I'm not to fond of "Come On Die Young", considered as their masterpiece (kind of heavy instrumental rock anthems)

Figures, as they resemble gremlins. Anyway thanks for the tip, first albums can be critical.

Adding to my (now) lengthy list:
The Kills - Keep on Your Mean Side

Nice. Similar in style to BRMC, Raveonettes, Jesus & Mary Chain.
