cd ripping

does anyone out there know of a program i can purchase that can rip cd's fast or does it depend on the speed of my cd rom?

That would be correct. It's mostly your CPU speed since it has to convert it, but it's also your CD-ROM read speed.

Well you're on the subject, what would be the average time it would take to rip a track from a CD, converting to mp3, on a 32x cdrom?
For me it takes at least 3 minutes for a song, and that seems like an awful long time. Is that normal or what?
Like I figure thats a long time, cuz it only takes me 15 to 30 seconds to download a song, so that's much faster than ripping.

I now see that I am ripping low, as I have that crappy COMPAQ CRD-8322B 1.03 and I the 0.8x rip is what I do achieve, lol, though it hits 1.0x sometimes. Anyways, I see there's a firmware upgrade to get 3.0x, which is still low, but better, lol. Thanx again.
