Im a noob to the skining thingand i have 2 questions i cant figure out, im shure there verey simple to aswer but ive looked and cant figure it out. 1. ho do i color the scrolling text in the main window? 2. How do i color the track progress ( i guess is what you would call it )at the bottom right hand corner of the play list?

Both of these areas use text.bmp within the skin file as their source.

Do i paint the words? when i do all i can get is orange?

The easiest way to go is to download the WInamp 2 base skin (available via the above links), unzip it, and open the TEXT.BMP file in an image editing application, like MSPaint or Photosohop. You'll then see how many pixels each character can take up, and where to put them.

Contains the all new Winamp2.9 base skin, also contains the single depth text.bmp, where as the one on NSDN contains the 4 deep text.bmp that hasn't been used for aeons

I'll be glad when that section get's revamped/removed

As you can see, I haven't been in the skinning game for quite a while. I'm eager to re-acquaint myself with it... maybe finish that "Green Machine" skin I started a year or two ago. Fun fun.

Ahhh, green machine, I heard, or I thought I heard, someone around here say they had a copy of that still lurking on their drives....

Timothy, you'd be better off using a template. "Skinner's Atlas" is very good. It also has some guides within the text.bmp that makes it easier to make your own letters, and has a wealth of information inside the readme.txt. There's a link to it in the forum that Mr Jones linked you to.

flattmatt: Wha'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis? Are you referring to the green machine skin? If so, I'd love to hear of anywhere else it was mentioned - I wouldn't mind a little ego stroke. =)

edit: Just realised that you could've meant that you hadn't heard it mentioned at all.. hmm.. =/
