Problem with in_vorbis.dll

Hi all. Around half of my music collection is in Ogg Vorbis format. Winamp 2.81 plays them fine, but 2.9beta and 2.90 will not play them. When it gets to an ogg, it just skips to another song (kinda like when the location in the playlist is different than where the file really is [if you move it after making the playlist, etc]).

I have found that copying the in_vorbis.dll from 2.81 into the 2.90 directory allows me to play my oggs, i just want you guys to know that it doesn't work? and maybe find out how to fix it

Thanks in advance!

AMD Athlon XP 1700+
Gigabyte DX7+
512MB DDR RAM
WinXP Pro (SP1)
Winamp 2.90
SB Live! OEM (There is no NOMAD plugin installed)

do they have id3v2 tags? they aren't allowed according to the ogg vorbis specs, use vorbis comments instead

you can fix the files with tag: tag --removeidv2 --force ogg *.ogg

how am i able to tell if they have id3v2? when i right click -> file info, i get the "Standard Tags" under Ogg Vorbis info, and it has all the artist/track/year/genre/comment...

the tracks were ripped/encoded w/ EAC via the external compressor function, using oggenc commandline tool supplied via the xiph website...

i had this problem as well and tried an older version of the .dll that worked for me until I read this topic and found out why it wasn't working. winamp should display that tags an .ogg file has.

Nope. Because putting ID3v2 tags into Vorbis files is WRONG. Adding ID3v2 support would be against the specification and cause other properly working players to not function.

Not supporting ID3v2 tags is within Xiph's specification.

The easier solution is to not add ID3v2 tags to your Ogg Vorbis files.
