ADSL Modem forgets where it's at????

Guys has any one else experienced the problem of their ADSL modem forgetting what it is doing at the 24hr mark? It comes to 24hours and then you cannot browse or check emails. It stays connected but just doesn't communicate any more...

I'm running XP (that could be it) and have service pack 1 in stalled.

You might be thinking why post this here????? And the answer is simple! There seems to be more educated people with the right answers here....

Even my ISP didn't know!!!

So I figured some one else here migth have had the same bug since we all here are after quality connections for shoutcasting!!

Regards

Peter

Contact your ISP or bandwidth provider.

They should be able to help trouble shoot your connection.

Already done that. I figured you might have gotten that from what I posted. They were trying to blame my firewall program. Seems some of them return false positives and it stops the ability for the modem to track your data packets.

So been there and I'm four different firewall programs later!!! Still happens..

It definately happens on the 24 hr mark. That's 24hr for "the modem" and nothing to do with anthing else....

Thanks festerhead.....any other ideas???

Regards

Try turning off the firewall -- but make sure windows is patched first. Don't do it for longer than you need -- you can't trust microsoft products un-firewalled. =)

Tried that too!!!!
It happens when the "modem" hits the 24 hr mark! Regardless of firewall on or off..

I've used XP's firewall, pc-cillin 2003, mcafee, Currently back on my favourite Zone Alarm!!!! No matter which one is in there come 24hrs of modem connection this happens.

I'm thinking it is a modem setting????? As I've watched the IP address and it stays put when this happens.....

Regards

Peter

It is made by D-Link. It's model no is DSL-200 USB modem.

I must confess as I remmeber installing service pack one after the modem drivers. I am guilty of plugin it in and reading the manual later (usually only if there's a problem). Would the service pack make some adjustments that the drivers compensate for when installed??

The theory on test now is maybe it might!!! Because this is the very reason the service pack was sent out (to fix USB data problems etc)with new hardware.... I guess I will find out in 19.5hours

But I'm up for suggestions just in case this is a wild goose chase!!!!

Boy am I getting pissed at this!!!!
Time comes and whamoe does it agian!!!!
I goto the modem's manufacturers web site (D-Link)and get the latest drivers etc.. For XP I might add too!!
After reading all the "readme" files and following instructions I installed the latest drivers "all Widows XP" certified!!!

Well 24hours later guess what???

Whamoo cuts off agian!!!!!

Last ditch effort is email support at D-link!!! My ISP (Iprimus) are still adimit it's the firewall returning a false positive and stuffing up the modems ability to track it's dynamic IP!!

Surely us net casters needing 24 connections have come across this??? I cannot be the only guy on the planet!!! Surely!!!

You are not the only guy on the planet.

You may, however, be the only one reading this forum with this particular problem.

Is switching modems an option?

Try D-Link support.

Yep understood Festerhead

I've emailed support at D-Link but the modem was supplied by my ISP. They still blame the firewall.

I will see what D-Link says first!

This is really pissin me off. All the nerds I know are puzzled.

I just figured it a good chance that some one here would be the most likely to have had it happen to them. We all need it to work 100% for our streaming
