Installing SHOUTcast on a remote linux server
I'm currently renting a server, and Tech Support says I can install Shoutcast on it, as long as I can stream on port 80.
With that said, my server is a linux box, and Is half-way across the country, so I can't manually install it. I've never used Telnet or anything to do shell access, so I need someone to tell me step-by-step how to install the software, get it running, and how to configure it. Any help is MUCH appreciated. |

Check out the results from a SHOUTcast forum search on 'telnet ssh'.
Look for a post by clubexplosion titled: Install shoutcast on host Note: Other search criteria may yield more results. Please read some polite advice. [lame humor]Forget the appreciation, send money.[/lame humor] |

Hello,
Feel free to PM me if something isn't clear enough. The simplest to do is to download the SHOUTcast server archive locally and edit the sc_serv.conf file with a text editor. Then just upload the server and the config files via FTP. After that open a Telnet session to your server and go to the directory where you install the server. The linux commands are : - cd [folder name] to enter a directory - cd .. to return to the directory up - ls to list the content of a directory When you are in the directory where your server is installed, just type ./sc_serv & This command will start the server from this directory (./) and run the server in the background (&). After having been launched, you will see the server printing some lines on your Telnet screen. If they aren't errors you are right and can disconnect. To verify that all is running, point your browser to its address http://domain_name:80 and you should see its welcome page. |
