Visualization Freeze-ups. Plz help!

I have been running Winamp 2.81, and more recently 2.91, with visualizations for many months with no problems. Last week I upgraded my Cpu to an Amd 2200+ from a 2100+ that died, my video card to a Geforce FX 5200, and added a stick of Kingston DDR PC2700 256MB ram.

Ever since the upgrade my visualizations cause my whole sytem to freeze up forcing me to reboot.Milkdrop specifically will freeze on my screen with no sound whatsoever at random times from 30s to 15min after starting it. Occaisionally it will cause my comp to restart. AVS on the other hand simply causes a black screen with no response whatsoever.

I then installed the latest video drivers from Nvidia as well as direct XI then tried reinstalling both of these versions of Winamp with no additional Plug-ins. When this did not work I reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP with my new hardware just to be safe and got all the lastest stuff again. I have tried changing various settings with no luck. Could this be some simple setting I have overlooked?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as it causing me much frustration and wasted time.
Thanks, Dietrich.

Are you having visual problems only with winamp?

MilkDrop & AVS use very different system for producing the images on the screen. MD being graphics card based mainly and AVS all CPU based.

Could be memory or a number of things.

I would run benchmarks in general.

Try maybe WA3 to see if AVS works there.

What are your ouput plugins you have not got something stupid slected like diskwriter plugin or something.

I have not noticed graphics problems with anything else. I am only using Direct Sound for output at the moment. I will try WA3.
