Winamp3 does not work

I have been using Winamp2 previously and when I was presented with an option to switch over to Winamp3 by the application itself I opted for it. I did not select the internalization option during installation but did select the other options. When I tried to play MP3 songs on Winamp3 after instalation I could not. Upon selecting the particular song and clicking the Play button the application would not play the selected song but would instead go to the next song and the next till the end of the playlist and then stop. All along it would not play even a single song in the entire playlist. It would all be over in a few seconds. I have not installed any skins or any new application on Winamp3. I have tried removing and reinstalling Winamp3 but the problem persists. I still use Wimamp2 without any problems. Kindly help me out. The configuraion of the system is given below.

Pentium II processor.
64 MB Ram.
Inbuilt Sound card.
Windows 98 SE.

Read this post for the answer to your problem.

btw... what do you mean when you say, "I was presented with an option to switch over to Winamp3 by the application itself" ??

Where and how was this option presented to you? I've never heard of the Classic Winamp application ever asking or suggesting for anybody to switch over to Winamp3. First of all, Classic Winamp v2.91 is NEWER than the latest public release of Winamp3. What are you talking about?

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. My version of Winamp is 2.77. I do not know about your Classic Winamp application. I have not been keenly following up on upgrades. There are times when Winmap is run, wherein it informs me of an upgrade available and whether I want to upgrade or not. If I chose the Yes option the Wimamp 3 download page opens. This was what I was refering to.

OK. I see. You have an "ancient" copy of Classic Winamp. Winamp3 is not an upgrade to Classic Winamp. They are 2 different players. If you want to "upgrade" then I highly recommend that you consider upgrading your current installation of Classic Winamp v2.77 to Classic Winamp v2.91, which has full video support (unlike 2.77) as well as a very intuitive Media Library, which IMHO beats the pants off the Winamp3 Media Library. You can have both Winamp3 and Winamp installed on your puter at the same time if you like also, as I and many many others do, since they are 2 entirely separate applications that are continuing in development independently of each other, and can happily coexist alongside each other on your puter.

btw... although you explained what you did, you did not mention the most crucial thing. And that is whether or not your problem was resolved after having read my other post that I referenced for you above. So, was the problem resolved?

I am having the exact same problem and it's not related to playlists because I don't use them. I choose "add directory" or even if I just do "add file" and put 1 song in, it won't play them.
I did just install a new hard drive and had to re-install windows, but that was the c: drive, and all my MP3's are on the e: drive, as is winamp, so I don't think that would have had any effect. none of the songs were moved to other directories. I downloaded winamp3 and installed it again anyway but it didn't solve the problem.
