Well, here's the thing, IMO.

It's very hard to take a creationist, if you are not one, for one of two primary reasons:

1) They are too dumb/young to have considered the facts and formed an intelligent opinion,

or

2) They have actively done so (considered the information and formed an opinion), and having come down on the side of creationism are True Believers. As such, it becomes a matter of right or wrong, eternal rewards or fiery damnation, etc etc etc. Thus, they view it, consciously or unconsciously as part of their missionary duty to convert you to their belief and save your soul from that giant EZBake oven down below.

Either way it's abso-toodely-fucking-lootly impossible to argue with one, and once the debate's come up, it's often very hard to maintain a civil conversation on any subject.

Now don't jump on me - this is perhaps one of the few posts I've made in recent days (hours?) in these threads that has absolutely no inflammatory intent behind it. But seriously, if you're arguing for creationism, you might as well throw all the scientific jargon out the window. It's your belief system versus theirs, and you'd speak well for your intelligence and perception if you'd just own up to it and play on your own field.
Just a quick tip. If you're not trying to be inflamatory, leave out the four letter words and the personal insults (i.e. dumb). And I will tell you that my ideas are not based on the fact that I will go to hell if I don't believe. You are wrong. My beliefs are based on what I feel to be logical. Something doesn't come from nothing. Therefore, some intelligence had something to do with us being here.

I'm sorry but thats inflamatory in so many ways. Not to mention the rampant generalization.

Fickle:
Your last paragraph pretty much sums up my beliefs in that area. I do agree with you there. The concept of hell is quite puzzling, but alas I must point out that we are debating the origins of the universe. And my belief with the whole seven days is that it is rather vague because there was no way to sufficiently measure the passage of time. According to Genesis, the heavenly bodies were created after the Earth. But I do belive that God directly made humans and the original set of animalia and what not. Sure we've lost a few since then, and sure a few new ones have popped up, but not by pure evolution of millions upon millions of years.

If life calls and you're busy, let the answering machine pick-up.

Just so you know, my previous avatar was NOT a swastika, nor did it have much similarity to one. Just thought I'd clear that up since I cannot use my own original art work.
