Tom: Clusters breaking apart suddenly

As of this morning, my two-relay cluster keeps separating and the only way to rejoin them is to kill one of them and restart it.

If I check the logs, there are no indications of any disconnects or connection errors causing the breakup. Just happens every hour or so.

I scrolled down the rap listing, and several other stations are experiencing the same thing so I know it's not just me.

I'll bring this to the attention of Tom Pepper, but please post the IPs and ports of the streams that are freaking out so he can easily look up the info in the MySQL database.

I've even seen it happening with the priveledged (AOL bandwidth) stations. But, yes, many stations, on and off. I've also found that kill/restart/sigwinch does not guarantee anything. Sometimes, they "heal" even when just left alone.

Also, sometimes, the "breakaway listings" includes a particular server in both listings, and sometimes neither! Moreover, there are never more than 2 breakaway listings per type (listing/bitrate).

"yp.shoutcast.com" resolves to 2 different IP's. Coincidence?

If those are two IP's are, in fact, two different machines with mutual nfs's to each other, then nfsstat is the first place I'd be looking - but that's just me.

Concur... I have noticed the exact same things. Getting really annoying.

I also realized while looking through logs, that it has the side-effect of stopping "[yp_tch] new backup server x.x.x.x:8000" altogether on the server(s) broken away.

It's still going on. I'm wondering if anyone's even looking into this problem.

that is a result of the servers breaking apart, hopefully Tom Peppert will be with us soon to help us
