Winamp won't run

When I go to open up Winamp3 it won't open. What comes up is a message saying would you like to send an error report. Why won't the program open up for me?

Not enough info provided. Not at all. Need more info to help you here...

1. What is the exact error message?

2. Is the error message generated through the Winamp3 application or through Windows?

3. At exactly what point does the error occur?
When clicking on the Winamp3 application shortcut itself?
When clicking on a specific file that is associated with Winamp3?
If so what type of file? Audio? Video? 3-character file-type extension?

4. Some basic system specs, including: soundcard, Windows OS, browser, connection, firewall (if any), etc.

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

I Have The Exact same problem,
when i start Winamp3 from the quicklaunch bar, the splash screen shows up, then the name of the splash screen on the taskbar, Changes to "Assertion Failed".
Then you have to shut it down and it sends some info to microsoft.

swiftmb...

LOL! You have the exact same problem? How in the world could you possibly know that since none of us know what Mandy44's error message was, and since there hasn't been any response from Mandy44 as of yet??

Nope. No way you could have deduced that unless you are a psychic or clairvoyant.

Anyway, even though you also have not provided your exact "Assertion failed" error message, you have at least provided a tad bit more info than Mandy44 has, which is enough for me to be able to show you some "common" Assertion Failed messages. Then you can pick the one that applies in your case, to rectify your problem. I'll leave that part up to you.

Quoted directly from the Winamp3 FAQ...
Quote:
Common Error Messages

Assertion failed
Expression: f-> ptr filesize
File: C:\projects\studio\ns_database\vfs.cpp
Line: 149

Delete the contents of the "Winamp3/db" directory. This happens when the database gets corrupt. Currently there appears to be no safeguards in Winamp3 for this.

Assertion Failed
"String.printf overflow"
Expression: real_len <= length
File: C:\projects\studio\bfc\string.cpp
Line: 498

Bad skin(?). Try switching back to the default skin. Delete studio.xnf and the contents of the Winamp3/db folder.

Assertion failed
Any other error

Completely un-install and re-install Winamp.
Uninstall via Add/Remove programs, delete the Winamp3 dir, reinstall.
Please, everybody... in the future search the forums and read all FAQ's and "Sticky" threads (which usually has all your answers) before posting a problem in these forums. If after having done all that and your questions are still unanswered, then if you need to post in the forums for additional help, do so, and also please provide enough info for us to be able to help you.

Ha I love newbies. They have no idea that there are millions of reasons for programs to crash and assume every type of crash is the result of the same problem.

Your a newbie because when you report problems you should always know to report with as much detail as possible. Saying something crashed or doesn't work is newbie cause that happens all the time. So I still believe that you are a NEWBIE.

It has to do with language files. Make sure you have the proper language pack that matches your systems language. Other solutions can be found here.

I was getting Asssertion error 399, and going be the FAQ it said to re-install but when i read the error its xml! = NULL i thought it might be a db error so i removed everthing from the db folder and then tried again it works fine now so i think if you read the error then it may not come to a complete re-install for those that dont regualy back up their playlists guilty
I thought I might share that bit of info so that others can learn
