HOWTO: Use the same port with multiple servers
Hello,
I have descovered a way to use the same port on a server with many copies of ShoutCAST servers running. Very simple actually, in the sc_serv.conf set the following: SrcIP DestIP to a dedicated IP on the server (same as each other). For example: Server1 => SrcIP=192.168.0.1 Server1 => DestIP=192.168.0.1 Port: 8000 (or what ever you want) Server2 => SrcIP=192.168.0.2 Server2 => DestIP=192.168.0.2 Port: 8000 (or what ever you want) Now in WinAMP you want to make sure that the IP (not domain) that you connect to is what you used in both SrcIP and DestIP or else it will fail. Now, when you call the ShoutCAST server you must call it using the DestIP and the SrcIP and port for each server or else it will not work. When you don't specific a SrcIP and DestIP it enables the ShoutCAST server for the entire server, and that is not a good thing. And something else to note is that this will also with a dedicated IP count the bandwidth used with the ShoutCAST server on anyport you use. Now, something I've noticed is when you put a ShoutCAST server on a shared IP (other domains on a particular IP) it will count towards the BW usage for the main IP, NOT the users domain). PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, I HAVE ONLY MADE SOME MINOR TESTING ON THIS. If you have any questions, let me know! Thanks and God Bless! ~~David~~ |

You failed to mention what type of hosting environment you are using... i.e. Cpanel with Bandmin or whatever... Ensim won't track shoutcast bandwidth at all...
Most people don't monitor bandwidth on a per IP basis... all I care about is my MRTG graph of the entire server. Good luck with your bbandwidth billing =) hope they pay in advance!! If you want to offer webhosting/streaming using cPanel. Or just offer streaming and count it towards their bandwidth usage.

Yep thats a good thing too... make those web hosting people accountable for their insane bandwidth usage from the shoutcast server =)
I think you can only do this with Cpanel servers though since they use Bandmin. BB 192k Mp3 HIGH DEFINITION | BB 24k Mp3 | BB 20k WMA | BB Community __________________________ My Host - Fast-Serv.com | Free Shoutcast Hosting - Coming Soon... |

How do bigger companies do this? Do they setup them up on a dedicated IP and Bandmin and have a custom program check Bandmin and bill the client or what?

most stream hosting companies charge for the maximum listeners the server can handle. This cost *should* cover the bandwidth =)
I don't know any stream hosts that charge for ACTUAL bandwidth usage... it's just way too much work and poses "success" risk to the client. By that I mean, if the client happenes to gain alot of listeners throughout the month and his listener average shoots up, he might not be able to pay for the server and end up losing it and/or going in debt.
