I renamed mp3 to m3p.

Yes, that's right, I have renamed all my mp3s to m3ps. Why you ask?

I work in a corporate environment which disallows us to have mp3 files on our machines. They have gone as far as scanning machines, confiscating boxes, and getting HR involved. (Crazy, isn't it?)

My great idea is to rename mp3 -> m3p.

To support this, I have added this key to the registry...

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.m3p]
@="Winamp.File"

This works great when working with m3p files in explorer.

The problem arises when trying to add these files within winamp using 'Add Files' and 'Add Dir'. I can almost use 'Add Files' it is just mildly inconvenient. It doesn't allow me to add them with the default setting of 'All Supported Types'. I have to select 'All Files', and then add them. 'Add Dir' (my favorite command) does not work with them at all.

I tried poking around the winamp.ini file. I added m3p to the extlist. No good. It still doesn't list the m3p files in Preferences -> FileTypes. What's more, it deletes the m3p entry out of the winamp.ini file!

Does anyone know how to do what I need to do? Any help would be appreciated!

Preferences (Ctrl-P) > Plug-ins > Input > Double click on "Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder..." > General Tab > "File association" > Add m3p

i wouldnt use m3p i would use prolly a .dik extention or a .sis if you use something that already exists then it will reassociate with winamp and .exe files or w/e will be attempted to be opened by winamp

. . . maybe apart from:
removing in_vorbis.dll (Winamp\Plugins dir)
Installing OggDS Filter
Then adding OGG;OGM;GOG to Nullsoft DirectShow Filter config.

Hmm . . . still not sure this would work either ????
The question being . . . will OggDS recognise GOG as an OGG file?
Probably not.

no need to remove in_vorbis.dll, just don't add "ogg" to the extension list

Yup, just tested it out, and it works

As LK says, no need to remove in_vorbis.dll
Install the Ogg DirectShow Filter on your system,
and just add ;GOG to Nullsoft DirectShow Filter config -> Extension List
