Winamp 5 is coming along good. Looks like the big launch date is pushed to early November. This is taking forever. But at least it'll give us time to make the it pretty solid. Good times. While they last.

This is the first time that I've looked at these forums. Now I know why there has been no update to Winamp 3. I suddenly feel I can wait a bit longer for the next release.

One request to the developers. Please, in the new version, include some of the old features, like "Stop after current". That is one of the few reasons that I don't use Winamp 3, and have remained loyal to Winamp 2.x (and I love the fact that you added in the media library to v2.91).

So, the officical name has been established as "Winamp 5"?

I, personally, wouldn't mind something a little more creative. Not that I mind the name "Winamp 5".

Winamp 5 = Winamp 2+3. Har har...

Oh ya, Winamp is dope.

Nope. You're not alone. I'm with ya on that Sawg. I still use/like Winamp3 and its default skin. Of course, Winamp5 totally rules and the WA3 Default.wal works just fine with it, as should all WA3 skins.

One more month, people. Just one more month - Winamp5!

Don't worry, Prorok. There will be a whole mess of icons to choose from in Winamp5, for both file icons and playlist icons.

I think cousinit99 was wondering if wa5 will feature a quick possibillity to turn on crossfading like wa3 did via the crossfading button.

what happens if you choose the wa3 skin in wa5 and toggle this button

[ ]nothing.
[ ]turns on crossfading.

Currently, the light comes on, but nothing happens.
I suppose they'd have to somehow make a DLL plugin version of cnv_crossfade.wac to make it work . . .

Yeah. You're right, DJ. But the fading configuration in DirectSound output options works just fine. I'm not worried though. There's a whole month to work all these little things out before the "big" release.

Prorok...

I have no freakin idea what FL Studio 4 "stylee" is so I couldn't tell ya, dude.

tnx.
of course the settings in ds_out are sufficient.
I wonder where they are saved. Maybe the toggle would just switch the settings for peters direct sound plug in.

then there would be no need for worting the wac into WA2 style.

If they did, it would probably make ALL mods so happy for not having to tell the newbs how to turn crossfading on.

Yes. Interpret "soon" how you will.

If you ask me

You guys should have one product when it comes to Winamp and stick to it. Winamp is the best mp3 player out there, but the more you release different versions and try to support them all it becomes more confusing for people to follow along with these changes.. Just have one program.. it would probably be more productive that way too

You're not going to see Winamp5 for Linux ever, unless the dev. team miraculously ports it to Linux and remember that Winamp5 is based on Winamp2.x which is pure Win32 (unlike Winamp3 which is built on the Wasabi platform that eases greatly the porting to Linux/Mac).

Will Winamp work with WINE? (Ok, so I'm too lazy to get Linux installed, try to figure out the mess of installing and configuring WINE, just to see WINE either nearly hang my system or error out.)

Can winamp be run from WINE in linux?

Well winamp 2.9x worked for me with a little older version of WINE released this June 2003. There was only two problems:

1. The main window was missing a border all the way around, as wide and including winamps title bar. I had to close winamp with any method other than the X on the title bar.

2. WINE makes a config file of the state of winamp the first time winamp is ran, as a result winamp always starts with them same settings, as far as I know all of winamp's parts will work.I was WINE (ing) winamp from linux on my NTFS XP partion, and I was using winamp with all the 3rd party plugins I use so I don't know if a person can install plugins very well if winamp is installed on linux. But if winamp is installed on linux then maybe the problem with the settings always being the same (as the first time ran with WINE) might not occur. You can manually erase the default WINE config for winamp to reset the defaults.

No WMA support, and Some DSP/Effects work. Media Library works great for reading from, I don't think I tried creating playlists or adding to the library from linux though. Off the top of my head I think winamp would crash when add file is tried to open. Hopefully that problem has been fixed in a newer WINE release.

I think as long as you add everything to you library it's usable. And for other files I think you can drag and drop into the playlist Editor.

I read winamp 3 might work but didn't really try it.

Hope this helps!

Winamp 5 Beta Suggestion

Since WA5 was meant to be WA2 + WA3 why has the playlist editor expander gone ?
It was an excellent feature for loading many playlists without making one huge (and hard to navigate) one.
Sure there is manage playlists but that just doesnt cut it.
Could the playlist loader please be put back in the final ?>
Thanks

Official word is that it won't be in 5.0, but it may make it into 5.1
