Appeal for draft board volunteers revives memories of Vietnam era

Well, this appears to have started sooner than even I thought it would. Okay, it's not exactly the draft, but, it you're American, male, poor and between 18-25...you gotta be a bit concerned.

Time to break out the dresses guys!

Message to the UN: Get off your lazy resolution-passing asses and send some damn peacekeepers to Iraq! The US and UK can't rebuild a county on our own, and we've been counting on you to help.

US & UK declared the UN irrelivant, but now the US wants help, suddenly the UN is important again....hypocracy! US & UK started this war, maybe, just maybe, they should have thought things out proporly before deciding to invade.

Why should countries who opposed this invasion help out the US & UK? Why should they send their troops to die in a war the US & UK started?
US & UK destroyed the country, US & UK's responsibility to re-build it
Your war, your problem.

Your war, your problem.
What war? The war is over. The US and UK want UN peacekeepers in Iraq because that is what is needed: security. UN peacekeepers are trained for security operations. US Marines are trained to fight against a hostile military, not act as a police force. The cases of guerilla attacks seen everyday on US and British troops are not merely a bunch of former Baath Party members or disgruntled Iraqi citizens; they are foreign nationals crossing Iraqi borders with the intent of killing US and UK soldiers in the name of their so-called Islamic duty.

Albeit that it was moronic for Bush to worsen, pretty much crushing, international relations before the start of the war, it was not only the US bathed in hypocrisy. For a short amount of time, it was those same countries opposing the war and unwllling to help the US, i.e. France and Russia, who were chomping at the bit to help in the "reconstruction" of Iraq as soon as those Iraqi pipelines opened up. The countries that opposed the US's war did not do so in the name of what was right or what was just; they were motivated by the fact that another war in Iraq would not fit their ideal bottom line and that they did not want the US entering into a second Gulf War until they called for it. It was because the US, for the first time in a long time, entered a war on its own initiative rather than for the cause of someone else.

just like WW2 would have been over had it been declared so in 1942.

the land war may be over, but the occupation continues, and that is what this is relevant to. besides, you're replying to the phrase "Your war, your problem.", which says that the consequences of war are the warmakers'. so the war doesn't even have to be continuing.

i'm not sure what's so hard to understand about this.

the US and the UK did the easy bit. what you mention there is the problem with this war - the warmakers are not able to deal with peace, or all the regime change they promised. it's a long process that's gonna take more time. and that doesn't look good on TV. so they're getting the hell out of there ASAP so they can go and attack another country, and provide some more "dramatic scenes".
