Heavy Metal Instrumentals?
Hey all.
Again, I've got to enlist the help of the resident audiophiles... I've been wondering for a while now if there's any decent Metal instrumentalist bands out there... Not bands that just give us one or two numbers without vocals, but focus entirely on instrumental music, much like Apocalyptica - just heavier, with guitars & stuff. Anyone know any? HElp appreciated, Sildantar |

i don't know any metal bands without vocalists, actually. i think you might have to content yourself with occasional instrumentals from bands with vocalists...

Saw a local band a while back that had only a drummer and a guitarist. They were called 'The Psychic Void' or something... ironic.

Listen to some specific guitarists, like Joe Satriani, Jason Becker or Steve Vai.

...and Yngwie Malmsteen
Joe Satriani and Stevie Vai rock! But are they classed as heavy metal? Lord knows with all these st00pid sub genres, lol ![]() Ozric Tentacles maybe? (definitely not heavy metal, but f00kin awesome, more prog/space rock instrumental style) |

Don't know if it would be considered "metal" or not, and you'll have to find them used now, but I.R.S. put out a series of records (yeah, records, but they're on CD now...) years ago under the series title "No Speak."
Guitar Speak 1 is still the best with Instrumental tunes from Ronnie Montrose, Eric Johnson, Pete Haycock, Steve Hunter, etc. Again, don't know if they're metal, but they rock! There's also Guitar Speak 2 and 3 and solo recordings from several of them like Steve Hunter, Pete Haycock, Wishbone Ash, William Orbit, Jan Akkerman, etc. Good thread, BTW, always looking for good instrumental rock myself. Hey all.
help much appreciated. I do a lotta Satriani myself, have all his albums save for one. Very good stuff, very nice. Will check out Steve Vai sometime soon! Doesn't strictly have to be metal, but should be a little on the heavier side and very guitarsey ![]() thanks again, Sildantar |
