Skin Construction Kit

Hi Chaps,

I'm new to this, but not other forums.

I am a VB coder (yuk but someones gotta do it) for most of my time now at work and sometimes in my spare time (used to code shareware games in DOS/Turbo Pascal).

A N Y W A Y .....

Love WinAmp and just started to check out some skins ... nice ... then I found out that WSZ is a ZIP of all the various components of the skin (BMP, CUR, TXT etc).

Started to make an "Only Fools & Horses" skin today (BBC comedy TV series in UK) and it got me thinking ...

OK, I am thinking of making a Skin Construction kit which will make life easier. You could for example present it with a nice picture and it would then paste it (with various options etc) onto MAIN.BMP and then the various button bits into the various sub BMP files etc if you want a full picture. As well as perhaps a colour picker for the TXT files. Also with a font selector from a font library etc...

Its a big job I know but hell, I like a challenge.

Here are a few questions which face me...

1) Has this been done before ?
2) If so is there aporgram out there still ?
3) If so where ?
4) If not, would people use it (if it was good)?
5) How many skinners would you say are out there ?

Anybody care to comment. If you would like to see a SCK, anything you want it to do especially ???

1) *laughs in disbelief*....Yes!
2) *laughs in disbelief*....Yes!
3) All over the entire internet, INCLUDING this message board.
4) Of course they would. People are lazy as fuck.
5) Couldn't tell ya....I'd guess like 12 or so. Most of em suck. Then, there's a couple cool ones (MikroAMP).

Hmmmm.....sounds like you're talking about making a skinner.exe program. Like Zeruel said, yes there are skinner.exe programs already available.....most skin sites have links to them in their Tools sections. But for your question 5.....are you talking about skinning programs.....or people (skinners) who make skins? If you're talking people who make skins....I would think there are hundreds.....just browse through the skins here at Winamp.com for a bit and see how many diffferent author names you come up with.

BadKarma....MikroAMP is a general purpose plug in for Winamp.....it is a control replacement, not an actual skinning program. But we love MikroAMP beacuse you can skin it! Yay!

If you were looking for the skinner itself, then just find "Winamp Skin Maker"...it's all over.

with somthing like MS paint, i think that would rule

I was thinking along the lines of that. Most of the skinner progs so far are pretty lame < or should I say <basic>

Hmmm ... I might just give it a pop ... watch this space ... I am looking for a new challenge.

Also do we know when v3 is going 2b released also do we have sneak previews etc as if I code this I might start to code a v3 as it will probably be released when v3 is to save a rewrite.

Winamp 3 is due out around Christmas time!

Yay! The Winamp 3 beta is supposed to be out sometime this month or next (correct me if I'm wrong you guys) for the Mods (double Yay!

). The only type of "sneak preview" we have gotten so far is some pics of the Main and EQ posted up in the Developers Section of Winamp. Sorry...I know that's not much help to you...
