Installs but will NOT run; total freeze

Hello... Perhaps a bug?
I have "only" just used the plugin that was provided with the instalation of Netscape. Recently moved to Mozilla and found I had no Winamp. Found this site.. found a link to winamp50rc8_full.exe and installed it. Several times now.

The instalation goes well, I get the registration screen and it "appears" to send judging from action from the ZoneAlarm indicator. Then just as soon as I click on "run program" the computer is "totally" frozen. Even Control Alt Delete does not work and a total "pull the plug" is required. On a re-boot clicking on the Winamp icon again will bring up the registration screen and completing that again seems to work. If I exit that screen i.e. do not select to run Winamp my computer runs normally. But, as soon as I then click the Winamp icon the computer freezes.

This all on a Gateway 2K PIII 500mhz, 256 megs ram, 40+ HD 20 available; A NVIDIA RIVA TNT AGP video card and a Creative Sound Blaster Audio PCI 128D (WDM). Connected to the internet via ADSL a DLink router and have ZoneAlarm Pro v 3.1.395 Also have NortonSystem Works but it "only" monitors email action (I think / hope).

If it makes any difference I could not install MuchMusic 8 either.. But, Winamp 3 works just fine as did the Netscape version.

Be glad to provide additional info if required

Install Zonealarm 4.5, Update your video card drivers to latest from nvidia and see if that helps.

Is ZoneAlarm a suspect? I have a new video card that I have been meaning to install soon.. perhaps this weekend. No expert on this and open to all sugestions, but your possible solutions surprise me.

it could be when winamp asks for permission to go online during first run

and zonealarm 3.1 is outdated

OLD firewalls have been known to cause problems with newer programs and such.

For whatever it is worth.. Upgrading to ZoneAlarm 45-530 makes NO difference. Winamp5 still totally freezes the computer when started. Will try part 2 of original response by changing my video card tomorrow. Have my doubts..

And still for what it is worth. (and judging by the enthusiasm of the suggestions not much).
I upgraded my Videocard to a Geforce3 V8200 T5 with the latest drivers v45.23 and still there is NO change. And installed the latest directx 9.0b(?) again with no change.
The installation goes well but there is a total computer lock up just as soon as Winamp is started.
And.. Version 10 is the same.
And.. I am giving up on Winamp.. I am sure it is a fine progam.. for those that can make it work. Enjoy it.
I have installed Voyetra AudioStation and it works.......
