I don't know if anyone has asked this to the 'Skin Gurus'.. What do you mainly look for when designing, and constructing your piece? What do you use as building block
(ie.. finish this sentence. "When I make a skin, I want it to be <insert thought pattern here>". Nexuz |

When I make a skin, I want it to be an authentic yet functional reflection of the aesthetic chosen". (Egyptian, Roman, Ukiyo-e, Dada aesthetics chosen so far)

...better than all of my previous skins.
Which rarely happens. |

When I make a skin, I want it to be...
a) pleasing to the eye, visually stimulating b) My skin, I want to make it like I want to, I'd rather have a skin that I think is the best one ever, but everyone else think sucks, than vice versa. c) functional d) something different of all the other skins And in that order ![]() ------------------ I want a helmet. I want a cheese helmet. A helmet full of cheese. I wanna pop it onto my head and just eat all day. |

okay, well i'll load up a blank image and then just start putting down colours and guide lines. the lines of a skin are important to me. i like to be pixel-precise with them, and i think if you're lines are laid down properly you cna do some very good things within the limitations set. I also think once you have your colours laid down it's a very good starting point.
I want every skin to suit ME and MY current desktop. If I don't like it and I wont use it, then I wont make it. I basically make skins for myself so my aesthetics come first. I like the skin to be clean, meaning not sloppily assembled. I like to be as pixel perfect as i can (shut up, you're nto alloud to mention my "off by one" errors!) I also like the tkin to be fresh. I like it to be in a sence rereshing. Something perhaps new and different for me to look at and use for a while. I also like to favour subtleties. I like things to be subtle rather than overwhelming and obvious. some of you might feel that "less is a bore" but being subtle can have a good impact. even drop shadows or bevels that are very subtle can have a VERY good impact. I also like to brand my stuff. put an (I/O) SOMEWHERE on it. what else....hmmmmm..... thats all i can think of at the moment |

Awww...that takes thinking, and it's Friday...
Well, when I consider a skin "better" than another, it: 1) Pleasing to the eye. 2) "skinned" extremely well (aka, the actually skinning was done very well....usually one of those breakthrough skins, where you learn how to do something new, and it turns out really cool) 3) Good image-editing. 4) Funtions nicely and clearly. (very similar to your own choices, ampburner) |
