I don't understand. What does saving a MIDI file to a folder on your HD have to do with any version of Winamp?

Answer: it has nothing to do with it. You save the MIDI and then you personally select which player you want to open it with (not necessarily Winamp, but that's your choice), by making that player the "default" for MIDI file-types.

So, when you said, "can't find how to save a midi file to a folder", where are you attempting to save that MIDI from? What source? From where?

If downloading it via a website URL or via a peer-to-peer app like Kazaa or WinMX, all you have to do is direct the download to a specific folder (eg: the "my music" folder you referred to above).

P.S.

You stated that you upgraded from Winamp v2.77 to v2.91. Well that's one small good step in the right direction, because you will now have video support. But if I were you I'd now upgrade your Winamp v2.91 to Winamp v5.0 (obtainable here). Also, read the section of Christophe's very first post in that thread under "What's new since Winamp 2.x:".

Besides, once the new site comes online (tentatively this Monday - the 15th), if anyone posts with problems/questions re: Winamp 2.xx, we will just answer them by telling them to upgrade to Winamp 5.0.

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

Can't remember 2.91 menus now, it's all so far far away in the past...
2.91 is like 6 months old or something,
but as far as I know, the option is still there.

In Winamp 5.0 (which is the direct upgrade from Winamp 2.91)
MIDI File -> Right-click -> File Info (Alt+3) -> "Save" button
Provides option to save rarer MIDI formats to .MID files, etc.

Oh yeah, now I remember . . .

MIDI File Info was broken in 2.91
