Where is the winamp 2 page?

Winamp 5 is just bloated crap. Winamp 2 is the best... It has everything it needs so why stop supporting it???

Umm, Winamp 5 is Winamp 2
with the added option of installing new plugins & features

Install the Lite version to upgrade to the latest version of Winamp 2
or the Standard version and uncheck the features/plugins you don't require (including: freeform skin support, cd burning & ripping, media library, video, etc)

Winamp 2.x is no longer supported, because Winamp 5 is the latest version of it. Full stop.

Bloated. lol, now that's funny.
When using classic skins in Winamp 5, it looks exactly the same as Winamp 2x, performs exactly the same, and uses as much resources or even less than Winamp 2x.
Besides, anything extra can be left out during installation, or just remove the specific dll's and you'd be left with Winamp 2x.

classic.winamp.com will soon be dead

Remember, Winamp is Winamp is always Winamp (0.x, 1.x, 2.x, 5.x)
Winamp3 = wasabi.player

The latest version of Winamp is Winamp 5.0
And v5.0 is the direct upgrade from v2.9x

I did say "full stop" in my first post, didn't I ?

My apologies to all. I guess I havent really even tried Winamp5 yet (cause I am still perfectly content with 2). But because of the whole winamp 3 situation i assumed it would be even worse now. I guess i will shut up now and give it a shot wont I? Oh and does 5 use a different mp3 decoder or is it still use using the same as 2 and 3?

Maybe having some stuff on the webpage about Winamp 5 == Winamp 2 != Winamp3 would ease the minds of those who clinging onto Winamp 2 after having tried Winamp3.

Let me explain what was said before.

Winamp 5 is the exact same thing as Winamp 2, but with a few extra plugins. Remove those plugins, and you get winamp 2 with a new version number. The mp3 decoder is the same. Or, if you prefer, you can install a new decoding plugin. Or you can write one. Your old skins will work fine with winamp 5. And if you have opted to install 'modern' skinning, freeform skins will also work on your winamp 5.

Have fun.

if ($winamp['5'] == $wasabi.player) {
$winamp['5'] = ."sucks";
} else {
$winamp['5'] = ."owns";

Winamp 5 freeform skinning utilizes the wasabi skinning engine. I guess you shouldn't use winamp anymore.

sorry, didnt mean to say it that way.
if ($winamp['5', 'engine'] != $winamp['2', 'engine']) && ($winamp['5', 'engine'] == $winamp['3', 'engine']) {
$winamp['5'] = ."sucks";
} elseif ($winamp['5', 'engine'] == $winamp['2', 'engine']) {
$winamp['5'] = ."Rocks!";
}

lol ok this might be confusing and i dont know if it'd work in a real-life script (assuming that the array exists) but it kinda gives an idea of what im trying to say.
Not that winamp3 was _so_ bad but it wasnt Winamp2/5 either.

perhaps the min requirements for running winamp 5 should be lowered from a p2 500mhz.

it seems from that statement as though winamp5 *is* bloatware.

The key here must be "with..." because the minimum system requirements for WinAMP 5 are MUCH steeper than for WinAMP 2. WinAMP 2 will run on my old Pentium laptop with 32MB of RAM and even on my 486 doorstop with 16MB of RAM both running Windows 95.

WinAMP 5 says it requires:

500MHz Pentium III or comparable
64MB RAM
Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003

That is a hell of a lot more.

ohhhhhhhh, use classic skins only, don't install support for modern skins, cd burning & ripping, media library, etc etc, or just download the Lite version, and go away.

If you want to install/use the optional new features, get a new computer.

pointless 'idiot thread' *whacked*
