no CD audio from (front) headphone jacks
as I made the switch from Winamp 2 to 5 it came to my attention immediately that there is no audio playing through my DVD-Rom drive... as it did before.
I believe I have had similar problems in the past with Winamp 3... but I don't understand why it would be any different with version 5. someone please help! :over&out: |

Hi,
What operating system are you using? I am thinking that this problems is related to the new sonic extraction engine that winamp uses. The easy way to fix this would (hopefully) be: Go to winamp preferences->Plugins->input. Select the Nullsoft CD/linein plugin, hit configure. Disable the sonic extraction engine there. That should make things the same as they were in winamp 2. If that doesn't work, you can try disabling/enabling digital extraction in the same preferences. If even that doesn't work, go to Windows' control panel. (for recent windows versions) Double click the System configuration item. Click on the 'hardware' tab. Click on 'Device manager'. Expand 'DVD/CDROM devices'. Double click the DVD player device installed for your DVD player. In the properties tab, enable digital audio extraction. When you've done this, it's probably wise to enable digital extraction and/or the sonic extraction engine in the CD/linein plugin in winamp. I hope this helps. -baafie |

The headphone socket is part of the analogue circuitry and as you will have changed to digital audio extraction(DAE) with the Sonic engine it probably isn't active anymore.
Play around with the settings as baafie suggested, but DISABLE DAE in Device Manager, do you get the headphones back. (Needs a reset) It may be you have to choose between the headphone socket or the ripper, but not both. The headphones will still work from your soundcard's output of course. This is not a Winamp thing, it is something controled by the OS. UJ |

2nd try
I tried enabling the digital audio and disabling the Sonic Extraction... but still nothing...
I'm using Windows 2000 Advanced Server... and a free copy of Winamp 5. I also have a Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy. I'm going to keep trying... all I really can do is make a change and restart. thanks so far... :over&out: n/p: juno reactor : odyssey |

Ok, here's what worked for me.
Disable Digital audio extration for the CD-ROM in the Device manager (Computer Management) In the Nullsoft CD/LineCD plugin, disable digital audio extraction. For me, the Sonic engine made no difference but you might disable it anyway. If the PC has speakers with a headphone jack, I would suggest plugging into those instead, otherwise you may want an adapter switch |
