Winamp 2.x support?

Winamp 2 was the best thing you guys ever created!!! It's simplicity is unparalleled, which is why I still use it today. I did some looking, but didn't see that you are still supporting it anywhere or allowing the last version to be downloaded. Where can I go to get copies of it if I wanted to still do so?

Winamp 5 is Winamp 2, updated, with ExtraBits(tm)

Just untick what you don't want in the installer, or remove the plugins from the Preferences panel. You can switch Winamp 5 back to look EXACTLY like 2.91, just choose Winamp Classic skin.

Does it *REALLY* allow classic skins or will it "support" them like 3 did?

I repeat...

Winamp 5 is Winamp 2 with ExtraBits(tm)

This means that it supports Modern skins via a Winamp 2 style plugin. Classic skins are supported directly by the Winamp 2 (now Winamp 5) 'core', always have been, and always will be

My only issue is that it starts up and then minimizes with the Reproduction Control plug-in running, but leaves the play list up on the top of the screen. Is there a new version?

edit... didn't see that it's on 1.36... I had 1.24 installed. The new version looks like it works.

I'm unfamiliar with the 3rd party-authored plugin you are referring to. Is it this one? If so, and it's not behaving properly in Winamp 5.0 you will have to contact the author of the plugin directly to have him update it.

But why even use a 3rd party-authored plugin like that at all in Winamp 5.0, when you have Global Hotkeys already built in?

CTRL+P to open Preferences > General Preferences > Global Hotkeys

Ahh.. OK. But if you weren't worried too much about using your media buttons, you can still have that same functionality. Just use Winamp 5's built-in Global Hotkeys along with the amazing DrO's Autoplay and Time Restore Plugin v1.52.

*Note: there will be a newer version of DrO's plugin soon - newer than the one offered here at the forums and it will be available soon at his site. Autoplay and Time Restore Plugin v1.58 will be available soon there. Here is part of the changelog for v1.58...
Quote:
Version info:

v1.58 16-12-2003 @23:31

* adjusted handling so now if the playlist is empty then autoplay options are ignored
* fixed an incorrect logic check for the above that caused Win98 installs to fail
* added in an option to control the above behaviour (default is above now!)
* altered when the plugin name string is set - now shows up if prefs is opened for the above option
* included a simple piece of debug code to see if the value i convert is the same as that in the file initially for IceGod's issue
But if you still insist on using your media buttons on your keyboard, then as I said above, contact the author of that Reproduction Control plug-in to see if another version is available, or to see if the author is working on making it Winamp 5 compliant.

I assume you are referring to this plugin. I just installed it to test it for you and upon opening Winamp 5.0 there was an error message indicating "sorry but this version only works with Winamp v2.xx". Of course I immediately uninstalled it.

Again, I repeat myself... it's up to plugin authors to update their plugins for compliance with Winamp 5 and you would have to contact the author directly to ask for an update. Unfortunately, when the Winamp.com webmaster recently revamped the site and re-added the skins and plugins database, it appears as if all email and URL links to the various authors were never carried through from the old database.

Well, anyway, I did a little digging and I found this info for the author of that plugin...

I want to get LyricsShow to run in Winamp 5. I tried to contact the autor, but the webpage is down and the email is down.
I really want this plugin. Isn't there any way to make Winamp 5 to identify as Winamp 2???
If I could do that, I think the plugin would work perfectly.
And please don't suggest other plugins to download, I've tried them all, and none works as well as LyricsShow used to work.

P.S.: If there is no way to make it work, where can I get Winamp 2.91 again??

You can get Winamp 2 from http://www.winampheaven.net/ and http://www.oldversion.com/ Keep in mind, Winamp 2 is unsupported.
[Edit] I am too late again, the second time today. [/Edit]

It's possible that the plugin might only work in classic skin mode.
Switch to any classic skin, close winamp, re-enable/re-install the LyricsShow plugin, then reopen Winamp.

If the problem persists, then yes, only the plugin author can fix it...

Alas, we no longer support Winamp 2.x, as Winamp 5.01 is the equivalent of the latest version of 2.x, and we've never supported 3rd-party plugins.
