:P winamp 5's features can be had for free. For ripping, I use a modified version of the cd viewing drivers to view the .wav files directly on the disk. This way, you don't need any intermediate software.

For playback, I use Winamp 2. Winamp 2 is my friend. We go playing together. I am NOT going to pay 15 bucks for something that was worked in the past, and I know it works. Besides, Winamp 2 can encode to the disk with the plugins. Why should I pay to get the features I already have? Not to mention, why should I pay for a program to replace the old and sturdy programs that I know work like a charm?
