Winamp vs ATI Radeon 7000

I can't get my head around this one.

I have just installed an ATI Radeon 7000 gfx card which works fine and dandy except when I playback mp3 files in Winamp.

It plays for about a minute then the screen freezes and I'm forced to reboot.

I have tried:

Reinstalling the ATI driver
Updating the ATI driver
Installing Winamp 5 (I was using 2 before but the problem is identical)

I have no plug-ins

Can anyone help?

tried updating your soundcard drivers?

updated directx?
