IP address? Stream address? Questions

How do I find out what my comp.'s IP address is? I learned about shoutcast and how to set it all up, by reading an article in an old MC2 mag of mine-(It's the May 2001 issue with the animated Gorillaz on the front cover.). It also said that in order to get important info about my server, to go to my server page. It said to open up my browser,(while online)and, type in my stream address, and, that my stream address should look like this:<http://yourIP:port/ It said to go to this address. It said, that from here, I could get some important info about my server, and that I could likewise, also, obtain admin. access and info here as well. My question now is, how do I find out what my IP address is? I've got my own home studio setup, and I would really like to broadcast my mixes and creations to the world! Someone please help!

Link using this format: http://yourIP:yourPORT/listen.pls
Replace "yourIP" with your IP (which you can find here) and "yourPORT" your portbase defined by your DNAS (server) config file. The default is 8000.

If you have a dynamic IP, you can get a static name at www.no-ip.com.

Tried, but it didn't work.

Mastermind, I tried what you told me to do, but, it that didn't work. I did find out what my IP address was though. I entered my IP in the "your IP" space, and my port number which is as you said by default, 8000, in it's appropriate space, and then clicked on it, but, it took me nowhere.-(to some search results page called PerfectNav, which informed me that no such site exists.) What did I do wrong? if you can help, it would be much appreciated. Also, just out of curiousity, are you really a d.j.? Also, are you really in H-Town? I'm in the Jacksonville, Tyler, Rusk, area. I need some help with setting up my home studio, how to get gigs, as well as some advice and pointers on which equipment and software to use.I also would like to know how to start my own label or at least a mini-label. My cousin's a d.j. and has already been in through production school, but, he's on some kind of national tour. He doesn't ever, e-mail me or call me, so, it's hard to get real advice from someone who is in the business, cuz, he's always on the go, so busy, and yet, I've got so much to learn. So, if you could be of any help at all, then just please e-mail me sometime. Thanks for everything.

If you're on a router that doesn't support local loopback, try changing "yourIP" to your LAN IP. Though, do give the WAN IP that the website gave you to others when you link them.

I used to DJ, but unfortunately, I've been 'forced' to put it on hiatus do to lack of funds. Yes, I do live in the Houston area. I live about 40 minutes south in League City. Unfortunately, I don't know much about what you're looking to do. I wish I could be of more assistance!

How do I find out what my LAN IP address is? Do I go to the same site that you gave me to go to originally, to find out what my comp.'s IP was? What is the WAN IP? How do I locate it? Oh by the way, thanks for the fast response to my inquiry about your d.j. career. Never know until you ask. Also, I set up my shoutcast server at home, then, I went to my friend's house and got online and tried to find my stream on shoutcast, but, it wasn't there. How do I get listed on the shoutcast site, so others can listen? Please let me know. Thanks for all of your help. I've got to get this working, because, I'm going to set up a website with a link from the shoutcast site, to my site, so people can listen and try before they decide to buy. What do you do now Mastermind, since you are no longer a d.j.? You sure do know a lot about comp.'s and networks. Does that mean that you know about programming, repair, ntework repair, and the such? Just curious.

To find your LAN IP ,go to the start menu, run..., enter "command". In there, enter "ipconfig".. copy down the entry after "IP Address......"

Your WAN IP is the world visible IP. That's the one that you found on the site that I linked you to.

I forgot to mention.. if you're getting any error messages at all, please post them. If you're getting any success messages, please post them.

I don't really do much of anything anymore. I do support on these forums (volunteer) and school. I actually hardly know a damn thing about computers, though a lot about SHOUTcast and networking.

Hey, I really appreciate all of your help and advice. It's people like you who make the world a better place. When you help others, you help yourself. What comes around, goes around. May all that is good, positive, and enjoyable come back around to you. May you and yours have happy holidays, health, wealth, and prosperity. By the way, I figured it all out. My stream and server are active and fully functional. I set it up, then, went to a friend's house, and with no results the first time, but, the second time around, I got it down. I just need to find out how to be listed on the shoutcast website visibly like the others, so, that people can "tune in", by clicking on the "tune in" button. How do I get listed? You could check to see if I'm listed. I go by the handle of: Spacexplorerz World. Hit me back up and let me know when you can run a test to see if I'm listed or not.

I believe in the whole karma thing too. Thanks a lot for the wishes. Best to you as well!!

"Unfortunately, there weren't any SHOUTcast streams found containing the term Spacexplorerz."

In the server log, have you received the "yp added" message or the "yp touched" message?

I checked the SHOUTcast YP directory after you PMed and I found the station without a problem. You should be up and running fine now. Good luck with your station!

Next time, please use the

The only person that needs to look up their IP is the person who is hosting the DNAS (SHOUTcast server) on their machine. They will then give that link to anyone.

Is your friend receiving any errors in the DNAS?

Do a station search straight from www.SHOUTcast.com

So I am being a good friend helping her out on this, cuz she said that when she tried to post on here, she couldn't sooo... basically we both need your help kk

If she visits this page, she can find her IP address.

If the server and source are on the same machine, put localhost into the address box in the SHOUTcast Source (WinAmp).

DNAS = the SHOUTcast server. I honestly couldn't tell you what they stand for.

The person that has access to the DNAS must set the password in the DNAS config file. Default section is shown below.
code:

; Password. While SHOUTcast never asks a listener for a password, a
; password is required to broadcast through the server, and to perform
; administration via the web interface to this server. This server should
; consist of only letters and numbers, and is the same server your broadcaster
; will need to enter in the SHOUTcast Source Plug-in for Winamp. THIS VALUE
; CANNOT BE BLANK.
Password=changeme

Check out the DNASs sc_serv.ini/conf configuration file for the section (default shown below):
code:
; SHOUTcast Distributed Network Audio Server configuration file
