Some songs won't play

Sorry if this has been covered in another post; I looked thru a couple of boards and did a search, but didn't see anything similar.

The problem I'm having, with Winamp v5.01, is that it just won't play some of my songs. When I check the file info (via a right-click on it in the playlist), all the tag info is missing and if I try to add it, I get an error saying that the files are read-only. I've removed the read-only attribute, but the problem persists.

FWIW, all of the songs that won't play used to play just fine in Winamp 2x/3 (neither of which I have installed now), and they still play in WMP.
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

What kind of files are you trying to play? Are they WMA files? And did you download the Winamp 5.01 Lite or Full version?

I downloaded the full (free) version of Winamp. The files I'm trying to play are all MP3s.

The playlist is an index of your media files and the locations. When Winamp skips files that may indicate that the skiped media files may have been renamed, moved and/or deleted. Then the playlit no longer correctly "points" to the skiped files. Try rebuilding your playlists.

You can have Winamp remove the astray files from the playlist.
1. In the playlist click the 'Rem' button
2. 'Remove...' (or 'REM MiSC' button in Winamp Classic skin)
3. Select 'Remove missing files from playlist' (Note: Don’t select 'Physically remove selected files')

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

Thanks for the reply JonnyMac. I was just going to post that I rebuilt my playlist and everything seems to be ok now. For what it's worth, tho, the problem I was having with files not playing was happening to quite a number of files on the list, most of which hadn't been changed at all since I last played them in Winamp3.

Thanks again, folks.

Strange, but the important thing is you can play your files now. If the problem continues please feel free to post a reply.
